Category for Akkerman, Ukraine/Russia

I've worked on a number of profiles recently in which the people were born in Akkerman, Russia, in the 1800s. The town is now known as Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Ukraine. I am wondering what categories I can place these profiles in. There's Russian Empire/Ukraine/etc, but I'd like a more narrow one for this town on the Black Sea. I worked on these as a part of the WikiTree Challenge, for AJ Jacobs, and these ancestors had Jewish heritage, and were not a part of the Black Sea Germans, which do have a category. Thanks for any guidance.

Hi Elaine,

The categories are for a location. I have added a category for the village of Akkerman, Akkerman, Bessarabia, Russia.

I'm working on scaling back the Black Sea Germans part on the pages to make it more "friendly" to other heritages. I got carried away, as I was trying to increase interest in the area.frown

There were a number of Ackerman from Bessarbia who ended up in Argentina.

Thank you for sharing the link.  I enjoyed browsing the site and reading.  The families from Bessarabia and Kherson ended up all over the world!   That does make it interesting and challenging at the same time to track them!

It appears from maps that the Odessa Oblast (present day Akkerman) was part of the Kherson Gubernia/Province during the Russian Empire. Kherson Category.

This information might help categorists.  Typically you would write location fields as Akkerman, ____ District, Kherson, Russian Empire.

This is the historical village of Akkerman, circa 1846, if you look at Julian Herzenstein's profile. It was as follows:

Akkerman/Cetatea Albă, Akkerman, Bessarabia, Russia; (Lat: 46.1880N, Long: 30.3440E) now called Bilhorod-Dnistrovs’kyi, Odes'ka, Ukraine. It was not in Kherson.
