I am writing to Greenwell surname researchers re: my maternal line where gggrandmother maiden name was reportedly Greenwell. She was taken in by the Briley family and raised, later to marry one of the sons. The story is that her father was a steamboat captain who was robbed and murdered near Cairo, IL in early 1800's. Her mother was from Wales. parents unknown. Ellen aka Elen Briley married John G. Briley in Handcock Co. IL abt 1855. They later moved to KS along with his parents and many siblings in 1870's.

Any info greatly appreciated.
