Should my mtDNA test really be showing up on my 3G-grandFATHER Irvin Finch's profile? [closed]

I don't think so and it's not on his son or father's profile. Not that it should be.

Hi Bennet,

mtDNA is inherited by both male and female children from their mother (and similarly, is only passed on by females to their children). Both you and your 3g grandfather, Irvin Finch, are matrilineal (maternal line) descendants of your 9g grandmother, Margaret (Glover) Hurt (1635-1704). All 3 of those profiles display your mtDNA test info, based on the relationships that exist here in WikiTree.

So you've not inherited mtDNA from Irvin via your direct relationship with him, but both he and you have inherited mtDNA via both of your direct matrilineal relationships to Margaret.

Hope that all makes sense.

Thanks, Rick. That makes perfect sense. I knew I had Irvin's parents in my tree twice as a pedigree collapse but just didn't think about it in this context.
I had the same thing!  And the system was correct...  (French Canadians-small pond back in the day)
