Searching for info on parents and ancestors of Jesse Davis, my 4th ggrandfather, born about 1767-1774 most likely in or near Cedar Creek Hundred, Sussex, Delaware. Died 1842 Fayette, Ohio burried in Yankeetown Cemetery. Re;Find a Grave dot com. Parents unknown.

Note; 1790 Delaware and other state's Census records and vital records were destroyed in wars.

Note; 1800 Census Cedar Creek Hundred, Sussex, Delaware - Jesse Davis - 5 Free negros and mulattoes, no other info given. These are not children of Jesse. There are also other Davis's in the same area Re; Sarah Davis. Ther are other Jesse Davis's in Maryland, PA, and other surrounding states but they were born at different times, married different women and had different children. I am currently unable to prove or disprove this is our Jesse.

Hi -

I came across this post while researching my own family tree. Have you made any strides in gathering more information about Jesse Davis? Do you know if he has any additional children beyond the 5 you listed here?

I am descended from a woman named Ann Davis b. around 1808 in Delaware or Maryland and I believe she is a likely daughter of Jesse Davis. Ann Davis married Jacob Baker (son or Purnel Henry Baker) in Pickaway County, Ohio on 16 Feb 1827. Sarah/Mary/Polly Davis who you list above as Jesse Davis' daughter married Jacob Baker's brother Daniel Baker. I'm not certain, but I am guessing that the two Baker brothers married two Davis sisters.

I appreciate any insights you may have.
