After a merge why am I no longer the profile manager for my family?

When I agree to merge my family with others, why do the people proposing the changes get to be the profile manager.  Why am I no longer the profile manager for my grandmother?  Do I have to stop approving these mergers?

I am on the trusted list, but have been removed as profile manager by someone who keeps changing the information in my tree to incorrect information.  He googles, and when he finds a record with a matching name, he assumes the two people are the same.  Unfortunately names are not unique.  I am tired of constantly correcting incorrect information in my tree.  There has to be a way to stop this.
According to the changes log there has only been one Profile Manager. I notice you made some changes to the profile but did not provide any sources to back this up. It is preferable to add sources so it can easily be seen where the information came from.

Please remember that other Wikitree volunteers can also be relatives of these people, and co-operation goes a long way to improving our tree.
Pomerance-1 was entered into the system by Eowyn during a genealogy event in NYC.  After the event I worked with her to change me to the profile manager for all of my family that she had entered.  I was the profile manager, but this has been changed.  Please change it back and figure out why it happened so it can never happen again.  It is wrong.

When a merge occurs, both managers remain manager, unless one removes the other.  Message the current manager privately and let him know you want to be on the Trusted List,

You are still a manager on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Katzenberg-7.

When merges occur, PM are not supposed to be removed. Everyone becomes a co-manager at that time.  Are you sure you were a PM of the profile before the merge?
Katzenberger is grandfather.  Her grandmother is  [[Pomerance-1|Belle  (Pomerance) Kent (1896-1990)]], but that profile shows Robin making some changes, but didn't create it
I am 100% sure that I was the profile manager.  This is my grandmother and she was entered into the system when AJ Jacobs ran a genealogy event in NYC.  After the event I worked with Eowyn Langholf to change her name as profile manager to mine for all of my relatives.  This was done.  Somehow it was undone.  I just want to know why, and if you can reinstate me the profile manager for Pomerance-1

The manager has added you as co-manager of the profile.smiley

Robin, I  have sent you a private message with quite a few sources that I found on family search, some that match Max and Bertha profile, but also some that are for a couple of other Max Pomerance / Pomerantz living in NYC at the same time and the same age, some showing birth in Russia, some showing Austria, so there are multiple people in NYC at the same time.

The dates that were on Max's profile matched Find A Grave 130109029.

I am not at all involved with these profiles; i just would like to point out that different historical records for the very same person quite often show differing birth places, due to changing borders, border conflicts, emergence of new political entities, different answers given by different household members jn different census years. For example, in the 18th century Poland disappeared, being divided up between Russia, Prussia, and Austria. Later on Prussia conquered some of that formerly Polish territory from Austria. Further territorial changes took place when Russia either lost or won territory. So thst the same person might be shown as born in Poland in one record, in Austria in another, in Prussia in a third.

I was removed once by the other PM immediately after they completed the merge. It was shocking and upsetting when it happened. And it has come up in G2G many times:

I don't understand why WT doesn't prevent this for a period of time, then if the other manager hasn't done a thing (even a thank you for the person completing the merge), then they could do it.

I've had the same experience, Barry.  Added sources and a bio.  Other manager undid all and removed me.  Happens.  I moved on since I have better things to do.
This shouldn't happen, Barry and Kathy, and if you are unable to work it out with the other profile manager, please use the Problems with Members process on the Help menu.

Sometimes members just need to chat with a mentor to get a better understanding of how merges are intended to work.

This problem needs to be addressed.  I take my genealogy research very seriously. I have been tracing my family tree for many years. I am a member of the New York Jewish Genealogy Society and was on the executive committee where I held the position of membership chair. I gave that position up as it took up too much time (before Covid). I am telling you this so you will know that I am not some Johnny-come-lately hack that believes everything she finds in someone else's tree. I have done extensive research, so I am not asking you to change things on a whim. But I do have a HUGE problem with things being changed from correct information in my tree to incorrect information. I can't focus on further research when I am spending all of my time correcting information that has erroneously been changed.

We're not talking about changing info here -- that would be a different G2G post. This one was only about the ability of someone to remove you as a profile manager. It's not that big a deal, since they almost always leave you on the trusted list, and being on the trusted list gives you almost everything that being a profile manager does.

To your point though: if someone does change info on a profile you manage to something incorrect, it is easy to revert to a former version using the changes log. I have almost never found someone who was stubborn and kept wanting to change info after conversations, but there is a process to deal with problem members as well. I think it is setup as about as well as it can be for a tree that is intended to be collaborative.
