Can we change the "Ask a Question" field to a button?

People seem to be confused by the Ask A Question field on the G2G pages; I see a lot of posts where it looks like someone filled in that field and struggled with the character limit, and didn't know that the "more information for the question" box on the next page was where they should put the detailed question.

What if the Ask a Question field were replaced with a button saying "Ask a Question" that takes the user to the Ask a Question page, since they're going to end up on that page anyway? Let's make it so a new G2Ger doesn't struggle with fitting an entire question and details into that field and then find there was a place they could put more information.

The confusion may be in the phrase ʻask a question in one sentenceʻ, so maybe some think that is all the space they have. It is easy to see the window below that line that instructs to give more information about the question and fairly easy to understand what that means.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean about a separate page.  Or is this a layout that you can see on a phone?  When I "Ask a Question" it opens into one page.

It often mystifies me why people try to get an entire question into one field. Have they never ever ever sent an email? which has a subject line and a box in which you write the email itself?

We shouldn't need a 'button', surely.  Having it as a tab is more than sufficient.  The phrase "More information for the question" could possibly be changed, say to something like "Your question in full". :)

I'm talking about when you're on the Questions, Unanswered, or Tags tabs, and in the upper right corner (on a desktop/laptop) there's a little green box that says "Ask a question" and has a field for the one-sentence question. Why not just make that a button that takes you to the Ask a Question tab, or drop it entirely?
OK, I can see it now.  I agree with you - it should be dropped entirely.
