Okay Eowyn!  After all this time, I can post an image on 52 photos without spending all day trying to figure out the issue!  I think my issue was resizing.  I clicked the little box by the size and reduce it to under 500px.  I also just drop the image in the window.  Well, it's working so on to other things!  Thanks so much for this project

This is a picture of my second great-grant aunt, Marion Thompson. It’s the only family photo I could find where someone was smiling.. She seemed to be a ray of sunshine!

by Raven Martin G2G6 Mach 1 (10.3k points)

Ha!  That's funny!  Love the photo and thanks for posting it!

The story passed down from family is that my Great-Grandfather, James Madison Rammel (1856-1938) Was extremely "HAPPY" to have his wife, Ruth Knott-Rammel (1866-1946) join him in the family business.

Ruth became what is believed to be the first woman to get certified in Illinois as an embalmer.  Thus, James had her perform body preparations for the women and he did the men.

Below is a photo of their advertisement flyer about their funeral home services in Assumption, Christian, Illinois.

by Bill Sims G2G6 Pilot (126k points)

Some are happy to go and others are happy they went!  I particularly like the ad:  Mrs. Rammel takes full charge of women and children.  I really never thought about it in that way, like who prepares the body if it is a woman, but back then maybe it was a good marketing tactic!  Thanks for sharing the advertisement and story behind it.

My aunts Minnie and Sue in 1920 with their uncle who was visiting London with the family from Australia, having emigrated there in 1911.

by Christine Frost G2G6 Pilot (152k points)
Christine gorgeous photo thank you for sharing

Always happy to see the family, but on this occasion it must have really been a treat, living so far away from each other.  Nice keepsake for sure!  Thanks for posting!

The photo was taken in 1958 at the birthday party on the occasion of the 80th birthday of Auguste Kruse (Möller-1907) in Seth, Schleswig-Holstein.
It shows Auguste Kruse's son-in-law, Hans Poggensee (Poggensee-6) dancing with his then 17-year-old daughter Magda Poggensee (my mother-in-law).

He seems to be the happiest man in the world and a proud father during the dance.

by Dieter Lewerenz G2G Astronaut (3.1m points)
Thank you Dieter for sharing this wonderful photo what a treasure
Not really! I was raised in Seth, played for SG Seth and my brother is still living there! Die Welt ist klein!
Sehr klein! Most of my and my wifes ancestors are coming from Seth, Oering, Sülfeld and Schacht we have also some in our family tree.

I played for the LSC (Leezener SC) first soccer and later on table tennis.
What a beautiful photo!  Thank you for sharing.

A picture is worth a thousand words... Hans was a dancer as you can see how he holds his partner with his right hand!  Cool photo to have in the family!  Thanks for posting.

This is a photo taken in 1922 of my father-in-law LeRoi Nelson. He is only 6 months old, and he looks very happy about getting to have his picture taken.

by Alexis Nelson G2G6 Pilot (848k points)

Sure looks like a father-in-law,  Alexis. laugh

Alexis your father in law are absolutely adorable, what a cute baby he was, thank you for sharing this
What a beautiful and happy boy! Thank you for sharing this.

I think he is just happy to be out and about...?  Thanks for posting!

Robin, I also called him Dad. He was a great person, and he was into genealogy. He would have been a wonderful WikiTreer.
Scott that is so funny!     I was thinking that too!
Thank you Susan, I have some cute photos of him unhappy when he was about a year older.

John, I was lucky that these baby photos of him had his name on the back. laugh

Happiness??  I think the children are very happy!  But Dad looks a little dubious... Seven children born between Jan 1946 and Jan 1954 might have subdued his joy a bit.

But it was Easter and they were happy. The children (all still living, plus 2 more who came later) still enjoy getting together whenever they can.

by Robin Shaules G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)

Robin,  The gangs all here!.......So far. wink

Robin magnificent photo so very cute thank you for sharing this wonderful photo
Robin, I had to read your dad’s profile before I made a comment. He was an amazing man and obviously able to deal with this many children with happiness.     Love, love the photo!
Hi Alexis. I didn't word my description properly -- Andrew would have been my father-in-law, though he died before I came into the family so I never knew him. Though his later life was rough, from the love still expressed by his children, I know that he was a loving dad to his children. Thanks for your comments and for taking the time to read the profile.
Robin, I love that you referred to him as Dad. You certainly have a wonder profile for him.
Thanks, Alexis! I couldn't have done it without the help of SJ Baty, who did all the military work.

Well of course!  The young ladies are happy to get all dressed up in their pretty clothes, with their little cute hats and purses.  Why not be happy at a time like that?  Particularly the girl in the front on the left.  Thanks for posting!

I like the one who swiped his sister's hat and put it on backwards -- happens to be my husband.
Robin, thank you for a great laugh. Your husband is absolutely hysterical....typical all boy!

My grandfather Herbert Schacht in the early 1950s as a Schornsteinfeger with his motorcycle near or in Bad Segeberg. Does somebody know the name of the motorcycle?

by Martin Schacht G2G4 (5.0k points)

What an interesting picture! He really was a chimney sweep? With a top hat! (Did he take it off when he went to work?) I got started reading about chimney sweeps and found an article about an international chimney sweep festival.

Thank you! I didn't use to know him because he died 5 years before my birth. But at every photo of him at work, he had the hat on his head. I have two pictures of him wearing the hat when he stands upon a chimney.

Motobike?  Just a guess, what a great photo to have of one's grandfather.  A real keeper...I would frame it and hang it on the wall.  Thanks for posting it for us to enjoy!

What a great photo!

Going homeI have chosen this photo of myself (right) and my sister on the two day train journey across Canada on our way back to England after a failed emigration. Canada was lovely but my dad's job hadn't worked out and we returned home. I remember being very excited at the thought of seeing my friends again.

by Gillian Loake G2G6 Mach 5 (59.7k points)

But, remember how excited and happy you were when you found out that you were taking this trip.  I have been on several trains here and overseas and both my wife and I would very much like to take the rail across Canada.  Lucky you!  Thanks for sharing that story!

by Deborah Campbell G2G6 Mach 3 (32.6k points)

Oh my gosh!  Away on Leave is the most happy occasion for both the soldier and the family!  I spent 8 years in the military and going home on leave was the best!  Thanks for bringing back the happy memories.

My parents, William T. Ceruti and Lucille D Ceruti enjoyed dancing and they were very good at it. When they got up to dance, everyone else sat down to watch. Here is a picture of them when they were happy dancing to the entertainment of all.

by Marion Ceruti G2G6 Pilot (358k points)

Your comment makes me laugh!  Well, that is happiness isn't it?  How fun.  Thanks for posting!

The only sad people you might see at the Carnival are the clowns!  Here's two of my grand-uncles with their wives having a night out on the town!

by Scott Lee G2G6 Mach 5 (60.0k points)

Sorry for entering two photos but I thought that it might give me a better chance to win!...not really, just having a little difficulty in uploading and thought the first one didn't work!

Thank you Scott for sharing another great photo. It took me a minute to figure out that they are behind a board with their heads showing.

This is my daughter with her great grandparents, Vida and Leonard Gonnuscio, in 1995.  Vida just loved babies and small children.  She was thrilled having us visit with Emily for a whole week, and it shows in her face.
