Adding birth or death certificates

Question

Hi,

Do I add birth or death certificates as a photo for a profile or is there a way to add the photos to the sources area?

Is there a preferred method?

As a photo...... Be sure privacy laws and authors/editors  rights are taken into account before you decie to place them on wikitree.

If you have the image you can download, typically it is added under Images.

All good answers! I generally prefer to add any birth/death certificates I find by linking them with a source citation that will take the researcher directly to the certificate that they can view. (Family Search/Ancestry) For the certificates I have in hand, I generally don't post them as a photo unless I have very limited or no other sources to provide for the profile. I have seen them presented both ways here on WT.

To add to Michael's answer, I have found that the procedure described by Deb Durham for creating a free link to view an image on ancestry.com works very well for this:

I'm using the library edition of ancestry at home during the pandemic, and discovered that Deb's procedure, with a few minor adjustments, also works with the library edition.  I use it in conjunction with Greg Clarke's Ancestry Citation Builder app to create source citations with the free link included:
