Attaching child

Question

I am trying to connect my great niece to her father who is listed as unconnected to the tree. Input my great nieces information. Ticked the blank for extra security and still living. I get a message that says I need to add a birth date and death date. So why have these settings if we are still going to be told we need to enter birth and death dates?

You need at least one date.  If the person is still living, it will be black locked for privacy, so nobody else can see it.
