How to list my fathers birth name he was never adopted but used step fathers last name

Birth name-Francis bryon Conrath

Went by step fathers last name - Waller

Which was then given as my birth name but my dad was never

Adopted so my real last should be Conrath this is the family I’m doing my geneolgy on

I have the same situation.  I legally changed my name to my step-father's name, so that would be the Current Last Name, Birth Name is Last Name at Birth.  When I married, that name goes into Other Last Names, but for a male, it would go in Current Last Name because that is what he goes by.

I have genealogy for my step-father, but my genealogy line follows the Birth Name, not the step-parent.  You stated he wasn't adopted, so that isn't a problem.  Your mother will have 2 husbands, so you can follow and add to your step-father's genealogy, also, if you want to.

If Conrath is the name on his birth certificate, then that should be entered as the Last Name at Birth.  If he used Waller for the rest of his life, that would go in the Current Last Name field.  If he only used Waller for part of his life, then Waller would go in the “Other Last Names” field.

You will want to research your genetic family tree so put Conrath as last name at birth for your father; then you can enter Waller as "other last names" and can address the issue in his biography.

My grandfather was adopted and then used his LNAB as his middle name. The adopted family name should be in the current last name if not married or in Other Last Names.
