Parents of Mary Edwards, wife of Francis Brown of New Haven?

Jacobus' Families of Ancient New Haven tells us that Francis Brown of New Haven was married to Mary Edwards. She later married William Payne and died in 1693. I don't know where he came up with the surname Edwards, but am willing to trust him on this.

Our Wikitree profile for Mary has parents attached: John Edwards and Elizabeth Whitfield who are real people and may have had a daughter Mary.

Does anyone have a legitimate source (not internet junk) connecting Mary to these parents?

If not, I would like to disconnect them. Objections, Thoughts?

I just happen to have the books in front of me looking for other info...

The reference is Families of Ancient New Haven, Vol I - III, pg 346 (more specifically Vol 2) - and reads as follows: (matching your question)

Brown. Fam 1. Francis, of NH, from Ratcliffe, Co, York, England; b, c. 1610 d. 1668 m c. 1636 Mary Edwards, who d 7 Dec 1693 NHV; she m (2) William Payne.

NHV is New Haven vital records and it looks like that is his only reference. However, he lists a son (the 2nd child):

John bp 7 Apr 1640 NHC1 - (abbreviated for First Congregational Society, New Haven) - and the same for his 4 younger siblings.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, hopefully the above will give you a clue.

Thank you Carol for looking that up. Families of Ancient New Haven is an excellent source.
