Why would you want to?
You might want to if the higher number had more (more accurate) information....but it would have to be a special case.
But couldn't you, as Alan says below, simply opt to keep the better information from the higher number at the time of the merge?
Exactly. There is a common misconception, I'm finding, that it's better to merge into the more accurate profile. You can choose which data to keep during the merge, and all merged bios, sources, etc. are kept.
BUT... Only the profile managers can choose which data to keep. I have no way to determine what another profile manager keeps or discards... :-(
Not necessarily the profile managers. It's whoever completes the merge that chooses which data to keep.
but same issue. If I'm the person who initiated the merge, I'm more likely to know what data is best to keep (at least that's been my experience so far). But I don't usually have control over that final merge step. Makes me a bit nervous.
Responsiblity is the main thing. We hope than not just anyone will be merging, that not just anyone will be dropping information from biographies. I find it difficult to remove anything which might contain information that I dont' recognize.
You could always make a note of the correct info, so that if the person who completes the merge picks the wrong data, you can correct it after.

When Merging both profiles are displayed the boxes to the left when checked will show what information you want in the profile in the right hand column. You can then elect to keep only the information you want. Higher or lower number really doesnt matter.

When profiles were merged - all the managers from the higher Wiki ID were removed. Is this a "new thing"?
