looking for origin of Wm & eliz Shipley NY 1817

I know that my Shipley ancestors came to Pultneyville NY in 1817 via York, Upper Canada (Now Toronto.) there was a man living her by the name of "Yankee Bill Waters" who was a trapper and trader, so my family has often wondered if he  were the reason that he settled here - elisabeth's maiden name was Waters. They brought enough farm tools for a farm and furniture for a house and already had five kids. They would have five more when they got here and only lost two    on the way to growing up  - quite a feat in those days. The cemetary is lousy with monuments to the Shipleys but the last generation - my sister and brother and I - have all moved on without a Shipley heir; my brother is the last of the line. The original farm was in the family's hands until 1961. I wondered if anyone could shed any light on just how or why or with whom these people came to leave and come here. Yankee Bill must have been quite the sweet talker!

William Shipley appears in the 1820 and 1830 census for Ontario County, Williamson Township (Later, Wayne Co). During both these years, no Elizabeth Waters existed at that location. The "Yankee Bill Waters" did exist at that location. His name is Wiliam Waters. Are you sure he married an Elizabeth Waters?
