When did the family tree change from walter to waller

It almost certainly did not; Walter and Waller are not the same name (Waller is of English origin; Walter was introduced to England from the Continent by the Normans).

Hi Henry
There is a good possibility it was Walker before it ever was Walter.  I was never called Walter at school but walker plenty of times, and in my tree back in the late 1500's early 1600's there is a Walker whose son became Waller
