Thank you for this information.  I have a copy of the death certificate referenced on family search which I received from another relative, but I am encouraged to see that it is now up on familysearch.org. Unfortunately, this is the only documented information on John William that I have been able to find.  I understand that a marriage certificate for his first wife exists though I have not seen a copy.  I am hoping that this posting will provide additional information on siblings, parents or other information regarding him.
