Reading a Norwegian Entry

Question

Would someone please scan the following entries and help me get the sequence correct?

This involves Jorgen Christopherson.  He is listed on the page below on Maria Renselse Day as getting engaged to Karen Jonsdatter.  Then the entry below it on Maria Bebudelsedag another (or the same??) Jorgen Christophersen has a child.  Both appear to be on the same farm - Faldereid.  Then click one page further and Jorgen and Karen marry on 22 October.  The child is not entered as uagte that I can see, or named Elen which was their first child apparently born the same year.  Are these two different Jorgens or the same man?  Was a child considered legitimate if they had at least announced their engagement?

Same persons.

Around 1734 you will find that church records often do not include marriages, but only engagements, and engagements  included sponsors, so engagements were regarded as so serious that many priests would accept children as legitime if the parents were engaged, but still not married.

I would assume that the priest erroneously wrote the name of the mother rather than the daughter.

In Sweden - and in the other Nordic countries, I assume - the handfasting was the legally binding event between spouses for a long time. This was naturally contested by the church.

In Sweden it was with the Civil Code of 1734 that the legal force was transferred to the church wedding, which had previously, in principle, "only" had spiritual significance. However, since the records of marriage that we have were kept by the church, they will express the views of the church long before 1734.

In Norway, betrothals were recorded in the parish registers, and considered legally binding, until 1798. Children born to a betrothed couple were normally considered legitimate.

The answers are correct, one thing I found out is to see if, they could have kids or not, the second thing is when you find them as a married couple the pastor will make a side note as to the marriage date, and the engagement date is like today and letting people know, as any proud parents would, in some cases the parents will give the name of both grandparents.
