Hello, I'm looking for a baptism and marriage of a James Cheyney, born, I think, in Aldbourne, near Lambourn, Wiltshire, around 1697. He died in Aldworth, Berkshire in 1757 - his Will is in the Berkshire record office. (Just in case anyone may have come across him before).
There are loads of records of his children, mentioning his wife, Grace (no known surname). https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?q.givenName=James&q.surname=Cheyney&q.birthLikePlace=Lambourn&q.birthLikeDate.from=1697&q.birthLikeDate.to=1700&f.recordCountry=England&f.recordSubcountry=England%2CBerkshire&count=20&offset=0&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on
I can't access the actual docs at the moment - no subscription. I have looked in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Dorset, with no results.
Don’t know if it will help you at all, but whilst the Covid restrictions are in place Wiltshire parish registers & wills are available for free on Ancestry https://wshc.org.uk/our-services/archives.html
Thank you! I didn't know that! Very helpful.
Thank you, Wen. Yes, I have used that site quite a bit - it's very helpful for my later Cheyneys, but this James is unfortunately not yet in there. The furthest back I can get is Edward Cheyney, the grandson of James.
