Question

Hi! The main goal of the Magna Carta Project is to have a badged trail to each of the 250 or so Gateway Ancestors documented by Douglas Richardson in his Magna Carta Ancestry or Royal Ancestry. (See the list of these Gateways in the table at Category:Gateway Ancestors.)

Badged members help us work toward that goal by signing on to be a Gateway Guardian and developing a trail for that Gateway (names in the table that have neither a b nor a g are available).

The project manages the profiles for the Richardson-documented Gateways (plus a few) and oodles of profiles between them and the 17 Surety Barons (out of 25) that have descendants past the 4th generation. We also manage the profiles for the 16 Illustrious Men.

Anyone* interested in any of these profiles can become an Affiliate member & join the project's Google Group to help watch over them. Affiliate members do not have participation requirements to meet (Badged members do).

 * Affiliates are encouraged to have the Pre-1700 Badge. Badged members need to have that badge and a few more requirements (see details [here]).

So... If you'd like to join as a Badged member, post an answer with the name of the Gateway you'd like to be Guardian for. If you'd like to join as an Affiliate, just add {{Member|Magna Carta Affiliate}} to your profile & send a join request to the Google Group (include your WikiTree ID).

I would like to join the Magna Carta project. I am directly descended from all 15 of the Magna Carta Sureties listed in the quick links. My grandmother was a member of the National Society Magna Charta Dames and Barons.

If you'd like to become a badged member, participation requirements include becoming a "Gateway Guardian" for one of the Gateways in the project. The project's Gateways are listed here. As a first step to becoming a badged member, let us know which among those not yet with a Guardian or a badged trail you'd like to start work on a trail for.

In fact we normally ask those interested in the Project to join initially as affiliates. We would want you to gain experience before considering you as a full badged member. So please do not worry about become a Gateway Guardian at this stage: that is for full badged members of the Project.

Hi, I'm an affiliate and Gateway Guardian in the Project but recently while I receive email from the magna carta project, am locked out of the google group online.  It may be a glitch in the system itself, because I just clicked on the link above -- underlined Goggle Group -- and it will not let me in.

Problem  solved.  I was already receiving emails as a member of the google group but when I would click on the link to go online I received a message that I was not authorized access.  But then below that was a message to sign in to google.  So I found my google password and signed in and authenticated it with my cell phone and now it works again.  So all the drama was about google being hyper-security conscious!

I would like to join this group,I did a match to the Magna Carta  Sureties on the relationship page and was shown related to all with definitley some showing uncertain which I will have to investigate.

I am new to working on Wikitree and find somethings confusing, might need help with this Crossman-345

For example Gilbert de Clare, 4th Earl of Hertford, 5th Earl of Gloucester, Surety of the Magna Carta is my 25th great grandfather.

Welcome to WikiTree! We'd love to have you join the project as an Affiliate member once you have pre-1700 certification. To get Pre-1700 Certification, you need to have been a WikiTree member for at least a week and have made at least 50 contributions. Please let us know when you've certified for pre-1700 and we'll add you as an Affiliate member.
