Leslies birth record shows mothers name as Vina Eldora Place and his brother Edwin’s birth record shows the same. We know her parents are George McLauglin and Isabelle “Belle” Harrison.

Any thoughts on why the word “Place” is used as her name on the boys birth record?

Thank you

Note: still researching where Leslie and wife are buried

both births were reported by Geneva Hammond, described on birth record as an "aunt"
Leslie's and Edwin's marriage licenses also has mother as Vina Place
Oh that’s interesting the aunt is reporting the birth. I wonder how common that was in that era?
ladies didn't go to the hospital for childbirth back then

babies were born at home
Sisters of the mother, or their own aunt, or mother, would frequently act as midwife.  My father's attendant nurse/midwife was the wife of his uncle.
Thank you Melanie. Good insight. I didn’t even think of that !
Yea and it’s something we don’t think of living in this era lol

okay !!

Vina and Geneva's mother was Isabella Harrison. She married Zelotes Place October 28 1867. Since George McLaughlin didn't die until 1912, there must have been a divorce.
