Looking for help with photos belonging to Sheilah Devlin of Perth, Ontario

+8 votes

I've been given a wonderful collection of photos that were once the property of Sheilah Devlin (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Devlin-1848) who lived her life in Perth, Lanark County, Ontario.  Sheilah was my 2nd cousin, twice removed and a regular visitor when I was growing up in Ottawa.  We knew her as "Auntie Sheilah" and she was a close friend of my aunt Jean Anderson, who also lived her life in Perth.

Sheilah never married and spent her working life at Wampole in Perth.  Some of the pictures are work place pictures taken at Wampole.

Sheilah's parents were Thomas Devlin and Mary McNie.  I'm related to Sheilah on the McNie side.

So, anyone with an interest in the Devlin family of Perth, the McNie family of Perth or employees of Wampole company may find some of these photos interesting.  I've scanned them all but still adding metadata where I can.  Please let me know if you're interested in seeing these pictures and hopefully helping me with a number of unidentified people in the pictures.

This is my first attempt to engage other at Wikitree and I'm not sure what would be the most appropriate way to share a 112 photos.  I welcome any suggestions on the preferred way to do that.

P.S. I tried to add McNie and Wampole as tags as well, but got the message "You need 100 points to create new tags. The following tags are not allowed: mcnie, wampole"

Hi David!  What a wonderful collection to receive.  I was born and raised in the Perth area and remember the smell of soap in the air!

I manage a One Place Study for all of Lanark County and some of the photos would be a welcome addition there (Wampole pics, especially) and am a volunteer with the Lanark County Genealogical Society.  I'll touch base with you by Private Message, as this may be something the society would be interested in seeing, learning about as well.

Hi David. Welcome to G2G!

A good place to put the photos may be a free-space profile. See

To create the free-space profile, use the following page:

It's a good idea to set the Privacy level of the new free-space profile to "Public", so that other people can see it but not edit it.

You can then add images to it, either by editing it and using the "add image" link in the right hand column under "Edit Photo Settings", or by using the "Images" tab of the page.

Let us know here if you need any further help!

Thanks, Jim.  The Free Space sounds like the way to go.  I had a private message suggesting the existing "Lanark County One Place Study" would be appropriate space for these photos.
