GEDCOM Upload - no dates

Question

Why does the system still allow a GEDCOM upload where a lot of the profiles have no dates?

When a profile is created manually you can not add it until a date is captured.

I've been wondering the same thing, but I haven't encountered widespread issues before. A no dates child was imported and added to one of my profiles earlier this year.

It doesn't 'still allow it'.  I'll bet the one you're looking at was uploaded years ago, before the no-date filter came into effect.

If I send you the GEDCOM upload #, can you check when it was uploaded.

The persons feed indicates today's date - Created XXX (Imported data from GEDCOM upload #xxx)

The changes log for these profiles indicate that they were created today.

if you edit your original post, you can add the profile URL at the bottom below the text message (Same place you can add Tags.  Took me a while to find it too, they are not shown when you go to add a message.  I have to still think about where you have to put it.

I do not actually want to add an URL as it will show who the person was that uploaded the GEDCOM.

They are still very new to Wikitree but I will gladly send the information privately to anyone on the Wikitree team that can assist with this.

WikiTree does still allow importing undated profiles.  For proof, please search WikiTree+ for the text "B0 D0 Open" (without quotation marks), and set "Max Profiles" to 1,000,000, then click "Last" to go to the most recent undated Open profiles.  There you will find examples of undated Open profiles created last week, both by GEDCOM import and manually.

Herbert, thanks for the link to the previous discussion.

What is amazing that if you run the report and just look at the Unlinked profiles that are not connected to any other, there has been at least 500 created just this year.

What is going to happen to all these empty profiles just floating around?

And no one from admin or tech has responded to this since Herb proved it is still happening. I just came across some added in the last day with no dates, no sure about locations, but if we can't add them manually, they sure shouldn't be allowed by Gedcom when there are no sources

Maybe bugs or sysops should replace a tag on the question
