Are there templates for Y/MT DNA confirmation statements? [closed]

Saw DNA confirmation statements (template style w/the globe graphic) on a couple members pages... so cool. Cannot find the templates. Please, where are they listed or do you know how to do this? Thanks!

  • Mitochondrial DNA Confirmed
  • Y-Chromosome DNA Confirmed

Patty, not that I know of, but this is a fabulous question - I think it would be a great idea to have a template that would permit you to fill in the variables and then produce a standardized DNA confirmation statement.  THANX for sharing this wonderful suggestion!!!

Those templates have been depreciated (see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:MtDNA_Match and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:YDNA_Match).

A member of the apps project is working on something to make creating the confirmation statements easier, so be on the lookout for that soon.

Oh too  bad, those were really cool looking. Anxious to see what else becomes available. :)

Thank you Jamie!

The new app will supply a citation but no cool graphic.

There is a template, currently for the EKA mtDNA tester which is used on the earliest known Full Sequence ancestor for a tester's matrilineal line using the haplogroup for categorization.

You can see it here on my mt FS EKA here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-255103

It's harder to pin down the EKA Haplogroup for Patrilineal lines since YDNA Haplogroups change so often.

Would love to hear some ideas on how we might do this for EKA for YDNA. You can identify the EKA for a Male line using the categories for One Name Studies. I spend a lot of time Identifying EKA's for the name studies I admin and adding the Category, <name> Name Study to the EKA for each line.

Oh that's a cool one too Mags, thank you! :)

Please explain, how do I post this mtDNA Full Sequence Earliest Known Ancestor graphic/template for my maternal K1a2b haplogroup? I've tried searching the site but cannot find any instructions... https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/West-19110

My son has just sent back his Y-111 test, very interested in learning all about it...

Mags, while you're at it, I wonder if I could request that you address an issue I have.  My great-grandfather had 2 wives and I have a DNA match with a second half-cousin.  For that reason, I put a DNA confirmation statement on my great-grandfather's profile as our MRCA, but did not put one on either of his wives.  I keep getting an error on my grandmother's profile saying that DNA confirmation is wrong because I used the word "paternal" instead of "parental".  THANX oodles!

EDITED TO ADD:  Here's the statement I used:

Paternal relationship is confirmed with a GEDmatch test match between Gaile Connolly (GEDmatch ID T543839) and Kenny Selcer (GEDmatch ID A636940), second cousins once removed (half). Predicted relationship by GEDmatch: 3.9 generations to MRCA based on 67.8 cM DNA shared across 4 segments.

How does one access/use this 'template' please?

I keep getting an error on my grandmother's profile saying that DNA confirmation is wrong because I used the word "paternal" instead of "parental".

The problem you're finding is that the Suggestions report is looking specifically for the word "paternal" or "maternal", not "parental" as I found out myself in the past.  I get around this for 3rd cousin or closer matches by stating "paternal and/or maternal".

Umm ... no, Kerry.  It's the other way around.  They like "parental" just fine - it's "paternal" that they choke on.  I make no attempt to get around it because I refuse to accept that it's my problem.

Look again Gaile.  The relationship between Greek-134 (mother) and Breznik-6 (child) is marked as "confirmed with DNA".  The suggestions report is generating "313 Missing mothers DNA confirmation" (status).  DBE error 313 is generated for the following reason:  "It checks in bio if text Confirmed and Maternal appears in the biography."  If either of those two words is missing, the Suggestion is generated.  You have three DNA Confirmation statements in Breznik-6, two use the word "parental" and one uses the word "paternal".  There are no instances where "maternal" is used, hence the Suggestion.  The Suggestions report doesn't look for the word "parental".  The only other word it looks for is "paternal" when a father is marked as confirmed with DNA (DBE error 213).

Kerry, I still maintain that my confirmation statements are correct as written.  The other confirmation statements are because the two people cited as having DNA matches are full cousins, sharing the same great grandmother and the same great grandfather.  The one I cited here that only mentions the paternal relationship is because the two people cited as having DNA matches are half cousins, only sharing the same great grandfather but having different great grandmothers.  I am really not interested in whatever algorithms or reasons therefor are used to generate error messages.  All I know is that my statements are based on correct analysis and if they are flagged as erroneous then the flagging algorithm is what needs fixing.

By the way, I don't know if the boilerplate for the confirmation statements has been changed since I used it, but I distinctly recall that they only included the word "parental" and did not include "maternal" or "paternal" as options.  I knew, when I used "paternal" in this example, that it was not the prescribed way, but did so because it was correct, while the prescribed "parental" would not have been correct.
Parental, Paternal are patently different things. It would be addressed with the Data doctors as the system is looking for specific words in the citations based on the examples given on the Citations pages:

For autosomal: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:DNA_Confirmation

For YDNA: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Y-Chromosome_DNA_Confirmation

For mtDNA: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Advanced_DNA_Confirmations

If your confirmation citation doesn't conform to the way the examples are written, then it could throw up a suggestion.

You can go to my EKA's profile and grab the template for your use, just update the Haplogroup to your Haplogroup.

@Patty - you would need to have someone tested who is a direct line descendant of IDA test, enter the test information into their DNA tested information. I don't see any FS Tested individuals showing on her profile. Once there is a tester you can use it.

Mags
Many thanks Mags,

Well doh, I didn't think about that profile being open to get the code...

Oops, the link for my EKA is actually: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/West-19110
Looks good Patty. I also added the FS Category for the Haplogroup and added it to the parent Category.

You can work your matches - the ones with 0GD mainly -  to see if any fall close to your ancestor Geographically by working the lines from the Testers grandparents back to their listed EKA. adding the above template and category then create a new category for your specific match group. So it would be Category: "K1a2b mtDNA Group1" for your specific matches.

Because I have researched migration routes I know that the women in my group 1 traveled in the same areas where my EKA lived. BUT. I have one woman with the right surname in the right county, at the right time, which is amazing. Now if I only had the time to flesh it out. lol The Cobblers Children have no shoes.
