Problems finding birth Record even with mothers Maiden Name

Question

Hello folks.

I have been trying to link two family's together I have all the information from the persons daughter.  I have looked on find my past and Ancestry I can Find him in the 1901 census and the 1939 register But I cant find his Birth Register even with his Mothers Maiden Name. I know he married in 1918 I have a rough date of Birth as 1894 + or - 2 years. every time I search I get not found.  Where am I going Wrong? I've been doing this now for forty plus years and it's doing my head . I have left names out Because they are not on here yet.

Hi Frank. Because you say 1901 census, I assume that this is in the United Kingdom. Was it England, Wales, or Scotland? Do you have a precise location?

If you would like to give the exact names including mother's surname at birth (even though they don't have profiles yet), maybe people can try to repeat your search and perhaps come up with something.

I found 1939 register entries by putting 1939 in the when box. Sometimes they don’t show up in the usual census lists.

It is a bit difficult to help with no surnames or location  but I have found a complete family registered under the Mother's maiden name (I was stumped for while) In the census the family all use the Father's surname, they also all marry using the father's surname. Another option could be a 2nd marriage of the Mother and the person was 'adopted' by the 2nd husband So the Census will show them with the incorrect Birth name. Take a look at the Parents of the individual see if that helps

I have asked permission from the person that I am trying to link up to names in my tree. all of this is in UK in or around Swinton, Pendlebury, Salford Lancashire

The surname Is Wallwork James Edward  possible Dob 1894  dom 1918 to Ellen ? Mother's maiden Name Flower Dob 1867 ? father Jacob Wallwork  1865.  In the 1901  Census England James was 7  his father was 36 his mother  Ellen was 34 They lived in Vine Street Pendlebury ,Salford Lancashire. they lived next do to a Family surname Flowers. Possible relation.

in the 1939 register James was Married to Ethel they had possible 6 children.

Seems William married twice.  The mother of Alice Ann, Jacob, and John was Esther Sharples - who may have died as a result of childbirth, as her death is registered in the same place, and in the same Quarter as the birth registration for John in 1865.

Looking for the last name of Sarah.

So - Jacob was baptised in February 1864, which means was born on or before that date.  Unfortunately, his was NOT one of those where a birthdate is given in the margin.

all this because my brothers carer Gail her friend put on FB that she was looking for Wallwork so I sent a message back I have that name in my Family tree and the rest is history as we say.

Of potential interest is that a 15-year-old Esther Wallwork died earlier the same year as Esther Sharples Wallwork, also registered at Barton.  Have to wonder if she's not related (sister, maybe) to William.
