Hi, Amy Lynn,

I have just added a long comment to your profile page to help answer your question. You will want to ask your question by posting it as  question of your own. It should look something like this. (Click this link.)

Thank you.

I keep getting mail welcoming me here, so I must look even dumber than I feel. But thanks  very much for your time.
I just looked at your profile. Lots of nice people are offering to help you. Most of them are advising you to start with yourself, and then your parents. And for most people that's good advice. I'm a bit different. When I joined Wikitree, my father was already in it, so I looked around for something else  to do. The first thing I saw was the photo challenge of the week, so I started there, looking at everyone else's photos and figuring out how to add mine (it took me a while, and I had a lot of help.) I have found so many interesting things that I never did any more of my own tree. I did not read the "guide for new members" page until today. So have fun.
Well, since I added myself, my parents, my Grandparents, Great Grandparents, and have 400 years of ancestors records in a well-organized folder, and I'm still being told to "start with [your] parents"? I think this probably isn't a great fit for me.

I don't want to start over. I haven't learned one new thing here, but have been told I'm wrong often. I'm just too depressed for this.

Is anyone FURTHER from St. Patrick than I am? 53 degrees. The connection finder is interesting, but it only finds people connected through marriage or birth. Here's my connection to St. Patrick

People in the US celebrate St. Patrick's Day by eating corned beef.

Corned beef originated not in Ireland, but with New York Jews.

My half-second cousin (Ross) and his wife (Madeline) live in New York City. Madeline is Jewish.

(But Madeline's Jewish great-grandparents did not live in  New York and have a delicatessen. They lived in Oklahoma and raised peaches.)

14 from Arthur Guinness. 3rd great uncle of wife of my 9th cousin 3x removed.

But I'm astonished to discover that St Patrick's sister, Tigridia of Ireland, is my 47th GGM ...which I find hard to believe, unless the people and dates can be proven.

Frances,  I followed you over from another site and recognized this was one that I had decided, at the time, not to pursue.......however, when I viewed the almost straight line connection to Saint Patrick I worked the relationship finder and then discovered you had, also......Thanks, cousin, for catching my attention to this post again.  smiley

Hey! And it looks as if we are only 19 degrees away from each other as well. I've been working on a Thompson recently - a 4th GGF of mine. Would be lovely if there were a connection, but I don't suppose there is.

Yes, I don't think I can really believe the Patrick connection - I've discovered that John Herbert has no corroborating sources at all and what links were there to ostensibly back the claims up, don't work. Pity.

Frances,  My father told me the Thompsons were from Ballintra, Drumholm, County Donegal, but here the trail runs cold.....I understand a lot of Irish records were lost, to fire, in a building they were stored.  I did, however, find a great amount of information to read about the Bates family......on the lines that connect our families......it's interesting to know how their paths crossed.

Yes, I heard about the Irish record loss too. Tragic.

The earliest Thompson I have records for, was Thomas Thompson's father, who was born in Ellingham, Northumberland, northern England.

'I did, however, find a great amount of information to read about the Bates family......on the lines that connect our families......it's interesting to know how their paths crossed.'

How do you think our families connect?

Frances,  I used the connection finder from Thomas Thompson to myself and with the knowledge of the Pennant Family and Penrhyn Castle connected our families through their social, political and industrial standing.

Oh I see. Of course. Interestingly close! laugh

Frances,  I wonder if my Thompson ancestors, being in Donegal, Northern Ireland, had Scottish ancestors closer to yours.  We are, however, related through your Chamberlayne ancestors to John Danvers and down to my paternal grandmother Florence (Benwell) Thompson who descends from our 'connections' group.
It's possible, I suppose. Thompson's a really common name of course...
Frances,  In case you missed it.....I edited my previous reply with more information.
Oh wow! That's amazing.
