My Great Grandfather was John N. Scott born in OHIO in either 1824 or 1827 His parents were both born in either New York or New Jersey.  John N. Scott moved to McLean Co, IL prior to 1860, because he was married there to Harriet Deffenbaugh in 1858 and had there first child by the 1860 census. Between 1860 and 1870 they moved to Cooper Co, MO. Which is where they died.  Their children were: William A. Scott, Andrew Jackson Scott, Nancy Elizabeth aka Betty Scott, Adam E. Scott, and there was a Hester or Esther Caroline Scott.  I have never found Hester/Esther on any census with them, but on the Cooper County, MO genweb site it says Hester and Betty had both moved to California State.  I found them Esther Abel and Betty Keith both died in CA. and both show their parents as father - Scott and mother - Deffenbaugh. The census's in CA for them, show they were both born in MO.  Andrew Jackson Scott was my Dad's father, my Dad was Curtis Edward Scott, Sr. If anyone can help me find out John N. Scott's parents I'd be so thankful.  Thank you ahead of time.  ~ Janet Kay Scott  married name Legerski

Caroline E Scott's 3rd marriage aged 30 to Charles (Chas) J Houson (25) in Santa Anna Orange County California in Jan 1918 shows parents John Scott and Harriet Deffenbaugh to both be born in Illinois.  Caroline being born in Missouri.  His parents being from Norway.

I see from the 1880 census Moniteau Cooper Missouri USA John Scott - Ohio 1823/4 Harriet Illinois 1841 William 1860 Andrew 1864 Nancy (Betty) 1866 and Adam 1875 - children all Illinois.  Caroline would be around 1888.

Sorry thats all I can find at the moment.

I know by other census that John was born in Ohio.  But that sounds right about Caroline, I guess everyone called her Hester.  I thank you. It's interesting. If that was her 3rd marriage I wonder how many times she was married in all. Because she died with the last name Abel.
