I admit I was hasty. I have a tendency to make large shifts in categorical structure without chiming in with the crowd first and thinking it's not going to affect anything negatively. My apologies.
I am here to discuss and propose changes that I feel need to be made or at least reinforced in a little section of the wiki, namely with Category:Occupations by Country. I love this category. I find it immensely helpful especially in my German research. I found however that the naming scheme was inconsistent at best and I made requests to the bot to rename the categories from Japanese Occupations to Japan, Occupations and so forth until I had gotten the fair majority of the countries within this category tagged for the bot. It was brought to my attention by a Categorization Project Leader that this action was a no-no, thus why I am here. It appears that she had created some of the categories today that I was hoping to shift naming to, including Japan, Occupations and Barbados, Occupations. Thank you.
As noted in Help:Category Names, this is the proper way to have categories with both a Location and Theme displayed [location, theme]. Many of the categories had previously been rendered as a demonym (i.e. Dutch Occupations, German Occupations, etc.). I believe that to remain consistent with the existing recommendations of the Categorization Project, that all categories with Category:Occupations by Country should *actually* use the country name and not the demonym. Case in point, referring back to Category:Barbados, Occupations; it had previously been known as Barbadan Occupations, which frankly doesn't even feel right. That is no longer the case with the initial creation of the new category.
For future categorization, I would be glad to create categories for additional countries, of which there should be at least 195 current countries, and not counting any previous countries that we may want to discuss later (for historical research). As a member of the Germany and Poland Projects, I might, for example, request that we look into those historical terrorities in that part of the world, particularly Prussia, which was not Germany or Poland persay, but that is literally a discussion for a different time.
Please discuss.
P.S. I would like to be a member of the Categorization Project if at all possible.
