Would You Like to Participate in a One Name Study? (Mar 2021) [closed]

A One Name Study (ONS) is defined as a project which researches all occurrences of a surname, rather than a particular pedigree (ancestors of one person) or descendancy (descendants of one person or couple).

One of the foundations of WikiTree is our commitment to collaboration, and we have expanded and clarified the guidelines for all ONS projects to ensure that each project serves as a collaborative platform that focuses on researching all occurrences of an individual surname across the globe.

Images_used_in_G2G-50.pngFrom here, individual team studies and research pages can then be used to branch out into specific methods or areas of interest; such as geographically (SURNAME's of England), by time period (SURNAME's of the 18th Century), or by topic (e.g., SURNAME DNA, SURNAME Occupations, or SURNAME Statistics/Facts).

Are you ready to get started with a One Name Study? There are many ways to join!

  1. You can join an existing Name Study;
  2. You can adopt a Name Study that needs an ONS Coordinator; or
  3. You can start a new Name Study by emailing the ONS Project Leaders!

Stop by the One Name Study Project page for more information on How To Join!

Requirements

To coordinate a study: 90 days membership at WikiTree and at least 1,000 contributions. There is a limit of 3 studies per coordinator. Please do not request a new study if you do not meet these requirements. See: [[Space:Name Study Coordinator Duties]]

To participate in a study: Everyone is welcome to participate.

If you respond, please let us know in your response which study you are interested in.

I would like to join the One Name Study for Stephens
Good Morning,  I'm coordinator of 2 one-name studies and joined the Flower Name Study and sent a couple of msgs to the coordinator but haven't heard back.  How many studies can we try to coordinator?  Maybe the Flower Study needs a coordinator?  I'm also interested in some other names in my tree.  Please advise.  Thank you.
I am looking to start a One Name Study for the surname Kynaston. Have sent an email.  Look forward to hearing from you.
Lorraine, have you had a response? If not contact Azure, send her a private message.  Presently I believe they are short of project volunteers.
Rowan, have you had a response? If not contact Azure, send her a private message.  Presently I believe they are short of project volunteers.
Please note that this post is now closed.  There is a link to the new join post at the bottom of this post.

Amy, about the time this switched over to you I had requested to take over the Price Name Study on Natalie's post.  She told me to go to the page and request to be on the trusted list.  I did this a week ago but have not had a response since that time.  How long should it take to get my name added to the page or did I just get lost in the change over? Thanks for checking into this for me.

You should be all set now, Paula!
Thank you

Hi Amy and ONS folks,

Yes, I'm interested in joining and studying the ONS for the name Wittbrodt (and variations.) I am delighted to see that a page that makes the most of my work and other researchers to date on the former Wittbrodt Project page is now set up. I have added a note on our project page to look here:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Wittbrodt_Name_Study

Great to see the photos and good links. Thank you.

I've added the ONS tag to my followed tags.

I am working on a research tree for the Harkins line.  I could take on the position of leader if there is no one else.  I have a lot of work done already on a major line of Harkins from the GA/NC/SC tristate area.

Hello, I would like to start an ONS for the surname WAHLPFUHL (also Wadenphul, Wadenpfuhl, Watenpfuhl etc.).

I already checked the list of ONS on WikiTree, there is no ONS for these or similar surnames. It's rare, anyway :)

Could you please start this for me? Thank you so much! I also sent an eMail minutes ago.
Best regards, Anne

I am interested in starting a ONS for the surname Rowlett
by Leslie Bell G2G6 Mach 2 (22.2k points)

Hi Leslie!  Thank you for your interest in a Rowlett Name Study.  I'll be in touch by Private Message shortly.

As coordinator for the Rowley Name Study, I don't cover Rowlett, but some of them may have crept in. If they have, do transfer them to your study. I have quite a few variations of the name Rowley.

I'm most interested in learning more about the following four ancestors:

Moses Ben Mordecai Sacutto (The Poet)

Abraham ben Samuel (Zacutus III) Zacuto

Edward Gove most notable for Gove's Rebellion

and of course Hope Howland Chipman daughter of the young man who fell overboard on the Mayflower.
by Marc Frucht G2G1 (1.5k points)
Hi Marc

I sent you a private message.  Did you receive it?
Yes, thank you.

I would probably want to join an already established Mayflower one, or one specific to John Howland or his daughter Hope Howland at a later date. I'll read up on that.

There was one point where I was trying to add a profile for a Zacuto ancestor that was pre-1700's so an error message of some kind told me I should check to see if there's a group to join before adding that, and it said there wasn't one for our   Zacutos so I should explore starting one. I would have to learn much more before doing such a thing. Plus recently, someone with shared ancestors reached out to inviting me to join an email Zacuto/Epstein discussion group that's already established inside the groups.io platform so that's yet a third thing I'll have to learn for the first time. I've used email groups before of course but these ones are brand new to me.

Thanks for reaching out.

Cheers,
marco frucht

Hi Amy, I just sent you an email in regards to Bolton One Name Study that just needs a little tweaking, in regards to the Sticker Link (that turns out red, when applied to a profile). This is not my own One Name Study but another profile manager's, of which he has given me permission to fix or be fixed: "I set that up a long time ago and have no idea how it works. If you can figure out how to fix be my guest".

Whenever you're able to, on behalf of Kyle Bolton, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

by Keith Cook G2G6 Mach 4 (48.4k points)
You bet!  All fixed now.
