CORRECTION - apologies for misleading re when he left Bendigo. George Bolton was born in Barna appro. 1851. He arrived in Australia in 1900 aboard the ORIZABA, visited Bendigo to see his older brother Charles Thomas and new born nephew Charles Finlay, and then disappeared shortly thereafter.
Then I think the George Bolton Colclough in New Zealand is probably your man, despite the discrepancy in birthdates. New Zealand marriage certificate printouts are not cheap, but the 1913 certificate should name both parents and his place of birth.

A quick look around the place, the only George Colclough I can find, died 1920, and was buried 7 Apr 1920 at Coburg Cemetery.

There is a reference to George Bolton Colclough in New Zealand in 1911, buying land near Oamaru (and there are other references in newspapers to a George Colclough in the Oamaru area from 1907):

The only George Colclough death recorded in New Zealand is in 1933, aged 74 (so born c 1859). His widow Frances Amelia died in 1939 aged 76 (death notice and obituary) - George Bolton Colclough and Frances Amelia Lister (nee Townsend) married in Waiareka, NZ in 1913. Unfortunately the local newspaper for 1933 is not available on Papers Past.

Are you sure that the man born about 1851/1859 and the one in Bendigo in 1942 are the same man, not father and son? He would be very elderly by then and so not likely to move far. The New Zealand man is old enough to have had a family in Australia before emigrating to NZ.

Suzanne is correct. I have obtained copies of George Bolton's Marriage and Death Certificates from NZ Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Thanks for your help.

CORRECTION - The ORIZABA's manifest shows Geo Colclough arriving in 1900 age 41. So his birthdate is approx. 1859 and not 1851.

CORRECTION - The ORIZABA manifest records him arriving in Australia in 1900 age 41 which puts his birthdate at 1859 (not 1851). This is a big step forward.
