Which reference?
<ref> tags </ref> should not go beneath the Sources header, and the profile is missing the <references /> that should be directly beneath the Sources header.
JoAnne, someone was editing while I tried to fix things for you. See Melanie's note above. Also suggest you make the 1871 and 1881 census citations inline. Here's how to do inline citations: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources#Embed_them_as_references_.28footnotes.29   This is a great way to take all the "fact" statements and weave them into a narrative biography and then give full citations for each fact with inline citations. Once you practice a bit with the inline citation tags it will become second nature and super easy to do.

A couple of things here.

1) Immediately under the ==Sources== heading, you need to put <references/> - this is a code which tells the system where to put the references

2) There should never be <ref></ref> below this <references/> line

I did not fix this, so you could see how to do it yourself. :)

Exactly why I did not fix it either.  (Is this a case of great minds - or something more comical?)
Looks like our answers crossed, I had already gone ahead and fixed that.

I try - but frequently fail blush - to follow this :

Teach a Person to WikiTree - WikiTree G2G

I know it was fixed. It also should have been front and center in all the help aids I have used to get used to WikiTree.

It looks like you accidentally deleted the <references/> tag with this edit. You need that tag in the biography, normally placed after the "Source" heading, for the software to place in-line references from the <ref> tags. Also, probably only intended to use the <ref> tags in-line. If you are just listing sources after the Sources heading, then you can just use a * to place them in the bulleted list, rather than using the ref tag.

Now I cannot find a place to send a Thank you. So Thank You. No one told me that before and I try to read all the help I can get.
