Wondering if there is a connection between these Holtslags...?

Hello everyone,

I am working on the surname of Holtslag, a Dutch surname originating in Gelderland province.

I have found a Holtslag family residing in Albany, New York, the immigrant being a Hendrikus Johannes Holtslag, or Henry J. , born 1844 in Vorden, Gelderland, and died in 1926, in Albany. He immigrated in 1847. His father, Bernardus, does not have an immigration listed. But he was born on the 28th of April, 1806, in Zutphen, Gelderland. His death record lists his father as a Rudolphus Holtslag, and his mother as a Geertruida Schuilenberg. I cannot find any info on this couple, and, considering that almost all fo the Holtslags that lived form the 1700s to the late 1800s, live in the area, I am wondering if there is a connection.

Unfortunately, I cannot find it, and am wondering of anyone knows where I can look, or if they have been listed under different names somewhere else?

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. Here is Rudolpus' FamilySearch ID: 2WC9-PF7

Thanks very much,

Alex

There are records for 5 children born to Rudolph and Geertruida. Bernardus is the only child who survived childhood.
Thanks heaps Eddie!
Really neat work, Eddie!
Hi Alex,

Here is more information you need to proof the Holtslag/Holdslag's are related.

Zutphen baptism (Roman Catholic church) 28.04.1806 28 dito baptizatus est BERNARDUS filius Rudolphi Holdslag et Gertrudis Schuilenberg Susc. Ant. Holdslag et Joanna Bernsen

marriage of parents: Vorden Trouwboek (NG): 24.05.1793 ingeschreven Rudolph Holtslag J.M. Hier getrout 16 Junij. https://permalink.geldersarchief.nl/1704A3F40759426497A06837639981F1

The question now is whether the groom or the bride was the  'Roomsgezinde partij'.

Regards, Bart
Thanks very much Bart, very helpful!
