How do I get notified when specific profile changes

+4 votes

I just want to know (email alert) when a profile changes without the use of 3rd part tools.

A watchlist doesn't appear to be the way as I can't add to it (

What is the term for this and where is the help?

You can see changes made to any profile on your watchlist, whether by you or another member, in your Family Activity Feed -- fifth subitem under the 'My WikiTree' menu at top right of any page.  I'm not sure what you mean by "use of 3rd part tools," so if I didn't answer the question, please post again.
Without using any external web page monitoring tool I'd like to be able to select individual people's profiles to monitor.

Monitoring surnames isn't a solution (at best a very poor workaround).

I do not want to ask people to allow me to do so and I don't see the point in requiring anyone's permission to monitor a public webpage.

I would use this for people that I'm having trouble with, watching for helpful new information being added. I would prefer instant individual emails.

It's looking like this isn't possible and I will need to use a 3rd pary product such as ""

These are the ways I know about ...

If you follow the surname, your navigation page will show changes in the activity feed.

Alternatively you can ask to be put on the trusted list for a specific profile and you will also get notified of any changes.

When I change a profile by adding sources, I sometimes get notified of other changes to that profile.

update: I also get the daily feed which shows some profilie changes.

I have things set up so that once a week I receive an email titled "WikiTree Family News" that contains a list of changes made to profiles on my Watchlist. I'd have to dig into my profile to figure out how I set that up 7 years ago, but it's been coming steadily since. I suppose there might be a way to make it a daily feed instead of weekly, but I never thought it would be all that important, as I scan my change list when I login daily, so the weekly report is just fine. However, if you're looking for real-time reports, the only way I know is to login and look at the feed directly.

I, too, have things set up so that I receive the "WikiTree Family News" once a week; however, you won't be able to get it daily because it is only produced weekly.  The daily "Wiki Genealogy Feed" covers the tags you follow.
