I found an obituary for Irving.

"PETERBOROUGH -- Irving "Nick" Eaton Nichols, 86, died Nov. 5, 2009, at Monadnock Community Hospital, after an extended illness with cancer.

He was born Nov. 25, 1922, in Boston, to Charles Eaton and Gladys (Edwards) Nichols. He attended Massachusetts State College at Amherst, graduating in 1944 with a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

In 1946, he moved to Peterborough to work for American Guernsey Cattle Club, retiring in 1982 as superintendent of the herd register department.

He was a member of Union Congregational Church for 50 years. He was a longtime member of Peterborough Rotary Club, which honored him as a Paul Harris Fellow for exceptional service. He served on the board of directors of Monadnock Country Club, Scott Farrar Home, Visiting Nurse Association, and Boy Scouts of America.

He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and an avid golfer. In 1988 he co-founded a junior golf program, which has introduced hundreds of 3rd-through-6th grade children to the game.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth (Tilton) Nichols, and their son, Douglas Nichols.

Family members include his wife of eight years, Margaret J. Nichols; his sister, Elizabeth Felbeck of Holt, Mich.; his daughter, Linda Beth Nichols of Center Barnstead; three stepchildren, Walter Jones of Excelsior, Minn., David Jones of Fairfield, Ohio and Ann Jones-Weinstock of Middlebury, Vt.; a grandson; three nieces; and six step-grandchildren.

SERVICES: A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m., at Union Congregational Church UCC, 33 Concord St., Peterborough. The Rev. Polly Shamy will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Monadnock Community Hospital, 454 Old Street Rd., Peterborough 03458, or to Union Congregational Church UCC of Peterborough at the address above.

Jellison Funeral Home, Peterborough is assisting with arrangements.

Based on the obituary, his birth year was 1922 not 1923.

I hope this helps.
