How do I add a WikiTree Widget to my Joomla website?

I am running a website for my research and I would like to add a Widget to my Joomla! website about what is going on at WikiTree. I hope this brings more Fenton researchers here. I was thinking about putting on the site as a banner, but I am not sure how that will work. I am not familar with Widgets. Any help that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Daniel, for helping. Les, any luck? I'd like to see how this turns out. Maybe post the URL for your website? When you do figure it out, maybe we can post some instructions for other Joomla users, like we have for WordPress and Blogger.

If I find out I will be sure to let you know. Joomla is a bit different than a blog or WordPress.

I am not that familiar with Joomla but the Wikitree widget is just a inline frame in html format which you can easily paste inside a current page. Are you using a default joomla installation or are you using some kind of banner management extension?

Basically Joomla is a CMS and does not necessarily have html pages. You create articles to update the website. It has the ability to do banners withing the system, but those are usually static images. I might be able to put html into an article, but I rather use it as a banner. Not sure how to do that though.
Hi Les,
I have done some searching and it seems only possible to add it with a banner extension. You can find instructions on this page:
http://www.ehow.com/how_8574265_insert-banner-html-joomla.html
I have done some comparing of the available extensions and so far this seems to be the easiest to try:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/edition/custom-code-in-modules/5435
I have already registered for a Joomla demo so as soon as that has been activated I will try it!
I have tested the HTML module and the process is quite easy:
- download the Mod HTML for Joomla module from
http://www.dart-creations.com/component/option,com_docman/Itemid,88/
(you need to register to download)
- go to your site administration
- upload the extension (mod_j16html.zip) with the Extension Manager
- open the Joomla 1.6 HTML Module and insert the html code of the widget you want in the HTML box
- enable the module and put it somewhere on your site :)
On my demo site you can see it on the bottom of the page:
http://falstaff.cloudaccess.net/
That worked, but didn't quite put the Widget where I wanted it, but I am sure I will be able to get it to the position I like after playing with it a little more. I hadn't thought to look thru the extensions list, but that does make sense. Thanks!
I hope you have already found a nice place for the widget :). You can btw also change or hide the title inside the module settings (otherwise the default title, Joomla 1.6 HTML Module, will be shown)
Yes, I did figure out where to put it in a place that was more of my liking. Thank you also for the hint about hiding the title. I really didn't care much for it. It looks much better now. In case you really want to see it, it is located at the following:
