Surname 'SIMS" , link back to " Frazer OF Lovat" .

HI!  Needing this answered, have traced my mothers tree back to THOMAS SIMS , born 1709, died1778,  then back to JOHN SIMS , born 1689, died 1733, most of the family was linked to WITTERSHAM KENT , now my mothers family have all said over the years that they had a "TARTAN" ---now can someone tell me , with the imformation i have will my mothers tree go back to FRAZER OF LOVAT, or do i keep on searching for the link across to the LOVAT"S, [ SIMS, name has changed down through history,court rolls in KENT1234, SYMMES in polltax records 1379,] -----could you give reasons, for and against, so as to give me some direction for further searching----thanking you very much, RAY DAWE .

Hi again Ray,  Welcome to WikiTree.   See attached Wikipedia page on the history of the Clan Frazer of Lovat.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_Fraser_of_Lovat    The clan seems to have started mid 12th century from Simon Frezels a French knight.

I don't see any link to your Sims though.  Interesting that Simon is said to be a common name in the clan history and your link is Sims.

Hi again Ray,   I owe you an apology.   If you look at the Septs (branches) of the Clan Fraser of Lovat in link I posted earlier you will see that indeed Sim, Sims etc are listed as Septs.    I've set up a Clan Fraser of Lovat page on the Scottish Clans project and I've added some info to it.
