Hello all, I am not sure if anyone else here knows, but there is a High School named in his honour. It’s Banting Memorial High School, 203 Victoria St., E., Allison, Ontario, Canada

We may not have heard of her - but have you not heard of the APGAR tests when babies are born?   A number out of 10 that babies get the minute they are born and then again 5 minutes later.  I think this may have been her idea...

My sons APGAR Numbers were 9 at birth and then 10, just 5 minutes later!!
She is indeed the innovator of the Apgar Scale.  So simple and yet so effective.

I am amazed.  I am only 17 degrees from Edward Jenner, and for once, the line doesn't pass through my wife or her cousin John Bernie (Bernie-17.) There was a Jenner family living next door to my parents in Geelong.

My closest is the Canadian Frederick Banting, at 16 degrees. Additionally, we are 7th cousins three times removed. He is related to me on account of some Loyalist ancestors who left New York during the American Revolution, and were cousins to ancestors of mine who remained in New York.

My most distant is Jane (Wright) Jones, at 50 degrees. After seeing that, I have put in a little bit of effort toward connecting her better, by starting to build out the profiles for the family of her husband.

I am most closely related to Virginia Apgar, who is a 9th cousin, once removed through our common ancestor Edward Spaulding.

I know of the Apgar scores because of the birth of my two children, who to my relief scored 9 and 10 on them. I didn't know who developed them.
