No sources connect father and son

This Benjamin Drake has been a problem for many years.  Douglas Drake asked a question that received an answer as if the information was fact.  The Benjamin that married Sarah had no documentation concerning his parentage.  Perhaps he should not be a New Netherlands settler until there is documentation.

I retagged this question.

Among other things, I removed the CHALLENGES tag. That tag is for Announcements and discussions related to Challenges on WikiTree.

In that context, Challenges means things like Sourcerers Challenge and the WikiTree Challenge, not genealogical research problems.

My sincerest apologies for my ignorance of what a challenge is.  I will refrain from using that topic again.

His profile has the New Netherland Project as a manager because he is claimed to be a descendant of New Netherland settlers and he lived in the New Netherland area during the time period of the New Netherland project. Further, I believe there has been some history of conflation/confusion  -- and controversy -- between the Drakes and other families that may or may not have lived in New Netherland.

On the profiles for his parents I found a source that could be useful for any WikiTreer who wants to research this person and try to flesh out his profile: https://sites.rootsweb.com/~brouwergenealogydata/p307.htm#i28215

That source indicates that he is named in the will of his father. It cites Calendar of Wills on file and recorded in the offices of the Clerk of the Court of Appeals, of the County Clerk at Albany and of the Secretary of State, 1626-1836. That source is online for free. Go look it up -- WikiTree has a  free-space profile to help you access it.

Judith,

There must be some sort of documentation. Please search for that!
by Anonymous Anonymous G2G6 Mach 6 (69.8k points)
That is my point.  Unless there is documentation they should not be linked.  I have several cousins who are searching for documentation and we have no found it.  This association with the father can be very misleading.
Judith,

Think about looking for documentation not only concerning those parents. Armed with proof you may find another set of parents until then read Julie's answer.

Looks like the profile has been in the project since 2017.  I'm surprised that no one has done anything with it.  Maybe you should add a tag that brings this to the project's attention.

Meanwhile, I think generally we can mark children/parents as uncertain, but unless we can disprove them, they should probably be allowed to stay connected.
