Johann/John/Jean/Johannis Theobald WADEL emigrated to Ontario Canada about 1835-36 from somewhere in Alsace. Theobald's name is listed on Ancestry's Passenger and Immigration Lists Index 1500s-1900s and the source bibliography is given as: LAYBOURN, NORMAN. L'Emigration des Alsaciens et des Lorrains du XVIIIe au XXe Siecle. Vol. II. Strasbourg, France: Association des Publications pres les Universites de Strasbourg, 1986, pp. 25-28 ("Pauvrete et misere"), 41-45 I'm wondering if anyone may have access to this book and could do a lookup for me? Hoping that it may reveal his place of origin or birth. The only census he would have been recorded on before he died has been mostly destroyed as is most of the additional naturalization information (I've already looked into it) so it seems like the only chance I have of possibly finding more information on him is by gaining access to the aforementioned book. Any help would be appreciated because I'd like to be able to document him before he came to Canada. Thank you!

Frank, the person you listed was the grandson of the John Theobald Wadel I was stuck on, but thank you. I've since found a birth record from Gildwiller for the correct John Theobald Wadel and he had died in 1852.

Alsace is a region in Europe that can change what country it belongs to, sometimes based on who won the most recent war, France or Germany.
