DNA and ancestors

I am very curious looking at the DNA matches for the Pugh's many people are related and DNA matches to the same person's I am related also; until I get to my grandfather Jack Pugh and my dad and uncles. How does our DNA match up on so many Pugh's and yet out of all those peoples I am the only DNA for my immediate family. I truly don't understand DNA that well. I appreciate any help that can help me understand. Maybe it can help me understand why I can't find a family for my grandfather.

The reason you are the only one with DNA listed on your grandfather Pugh's profile (for example) is that you are his only descendant who has joined WT and posted your test information.

Hello,

Those DNA matches on the Pugh line are too far removed from you to statistically share DNA with you. You may have noticed there is a DNA Shared Percentage next to each of your cousins to your grandpa. They are listed as having an approximate amount of .38% shared DNA with your grandfather. That is the limit to which Wikitree propagates DNA tests out..  Your parent would have half of that or  .19% DNA in common with them and you would have half as much again or .095%.

Those people are in fact  your cousins; they probably don't share any DNA with you though and Wikitree is designed to only track people within 6 generations or degrees from a DNA test. You are 8 degrees or generations removed from them so their tests don't appear on your profile.

I hope that helps

You have William and Lula Pugh attached as parents of your grandfather, with a note that those names are on his S.S. application.  There is a Jack Pugh, son of William and Lula Pugh, on the 1900 census in De Soto, Louisiana.  But his birth info is shown as May 1893 in Louisiana.  He's still in his parents' home in 1910.  And I locate a Jack Pugh on the WWI draft registration cards with a DOB of 9 May 1893, and the same Jack on Find-a-Grave

You have Lula Nobles as the mother, yet Lula appears on the 1900 census living with her parents.  If Jack was born in 1898, he should be in this household.  The marriage record you have attached to Lula Nobles is for a marriage to William King, not William Pugh.

You mention that the only record of Jack's parents is on a S.S. record.  Can you provide a link to that?  You need to be sure that it's for 'your' Jack and not the above-mentioned one that lived and died in Louisiana.

You don't go into detail about your DNA and matches.  You mention you match many Pughs but you're the only DNA for your immediate family.  What do you mean by that?

Pugh-4249 is the link to my grandfather Jack Pugh and a picture of his SS application in on images. My cousin received this from SS office.  On the forms and information I have on him he always lists his birth as Dec 7th 1897 or 1898 Pike Rd, Montgomery, Al. Many Pugh's lived in that area. We were told he had been raised by a cruel grandfather that accused him of stealing around the age of 13 and he ran away. He shows up in Tx in 1917-18 where his draft card was filed. He also married and divorced in 1918-1920. Then married my grandmother Nancy Faulkner in 1923. The information I have on him is all that has been found. He doesn't seem to be on the census before Tx. I have a male cousin that has taken the Pugh DNA test and we are Pugh's. One cousin even went to Al. but no information was turned up.
