Can anyone help prove that this gentleman had children

I was working on the profile of Robert Singleton unfortunately it was merged with a gentleman that appeared to originally been William Robert Singleton (who's profile I wasn't working on and was born on the fylde)

my problem of the children has now been inherited, that I can find no proof existed. The children then supposedly emigrate to America.

Any help of proving their existence and that they belong to this Robert Singleton, would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I see only one child attached. I’m not sure about the merge etc but not multiple children it appears only one to research?

FamilySearch does have this family group but not many sources but can be researched there I did find this

Name: Robert Singleton
Sex: M

Household  Role  Sex  Age  Birthplace
Elizabeth  Wife
William Singleton  Son

Citing this Record
"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975", database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NYB6-2XG : 18 September 2020), Robert Singleton in entry for William Singleton, 1621.

I can reattach the others BUT there is no proof they are related which is a problem - They were originally attached to the profile of a William Robert Singleton, which has now been merged with Robert Singleton (Base son of William) I suggested on numerous occasions it was not ready to be merged sad William Robert Singleton is NOT the same person as Robert Singleton. I wrote in the comments that though they had been attached to the same wife (probably erroneously). The other WILLIAM Robert Singleton suggested his ancestry could lie with the Singletons of Staining.

Another of the children this tree has already been flagged as a possible fake

Honestly this profile is a candidate for PPP and should be done ASAP. My humble opinion

Pre-1700 is not my specialty. I’m a 19th century sleuth laugh

I agree laugh and my speciality isn't this era either, just have a special interest in the Singletons due to family 'legends' and have done a lot of 'research' from old documents / books etc. It doesn't help that a lot were Catholics / papists

Someone created an entirely new line on FamilySearch and deleted all of the profiles existing before 2020-2021. Now there are no sources, notes, memories etc. I get so frustrated but am working on one of them right now.

Hi Heather,

One thing I believe should always be done when detaching children from parents is to put a note in the bio with a link to the parents that you are detaching.  That allows others to know about the profiles that have been detached and more easily reattach them if they are found to actually be the correct parents.  To make it even better, you add a note on the parent's profiles with a note about (and link to) the children's profiles that were detached.

If you are wanting a profile to have PPP, then you need to contact a project and ask them to consider being a PM and adding PPP to the profile, explaining why you feel it needs project protection.  England has a form to complete, available here.

I didn't realise that I needed to apply Thanks I did tag project leaders in the question.

Think there is a couple that claim this Parent. There's plenty of Singletons (at the time) with a higher status could just as easily attach to any of them! That's how much proof I have found. One of the children was born Croxeth - odd when the gentlemen in question was living at Brockholes, one child was called Lucille (which has been changed to Ellen) no proof of either being born to Robert living at Brockholes.

A merge of a William Robert Singleton that was changed to Robert and children with name changes and even the wife has had her name changed from Ann/Anne to Mary Ann (the profile manager has now changed it back)

If you follow the profiles down, I can find no existence of very few of them and seems to suggest 'Fake Ancestry'

Someone has already looked at the Newsham descendants, and can find no link back to the Newsham's they claim to be descended from. but also could be said for the Newman's, and i suspect the Singleton Family.
I have put a request in for PPP
Okay now I know it is closer to the same because I am working on Mary Ann Brockholes right now! Cheers!

Thanks for submitting this profile for PPP Heather - it is now entered in the England Project's spreadsheet. smiley

Because your post was tagged "England" it did come through on the England Project's Discord feed, but the title was worded as a general request for help with sources rather than help with a disputed merge. Thanks to Darlene (waves to Darlene) you were pointed in the right direction with the England Project management suggestion form. This form is available to anyone who wishes the England Project to take a look at a profile with regard to possible management.

We are very happy take a look at this situation. The first step will probably be for the England Project to become a co-manager. If so, we will send a Trusted List request.

Thank you very much.

I did mention some of the children in my message bt remembered another one, that I think someone else might have unattached https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Singleton-1720

Profile Management request sent from the England Project.
Can we add a PPP urgently a link to find a grave has been added which is more than likely spurious. I can find no proof that the burial actually exists, and it would be very unllikely that he would be buried at Great Singleton which is NOT in Blackburn. A burial is recorded at Preston Parish church in reference to a Robert Singleton taking place at Salmesbury.

.

This is supposed to be just one of the memorials from Find a grave of his father https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/195721381/william-henry-singleton   1. I can find no evidence of William having a middle name  2. He had no living children from wife hence why the will was disputed. 3. I doubt with the parents are correct too. 4. Fishwick is another 'important' family in the region, if you find ANY evidence of this information I will be very surprised. 5. All appear to be completely made up.

Heather, I need either you or the other profile manager to accept the co-management request which I sent yesterday before I can apply PPP. This would have been in the form of an email from Wikitree and it might be with checking your spam folder.

I found it, I think I completed it frown

You need to go to the privacy tab and select "add as manager" next to the England Project avatar. Then we can get on with the PPP.
Thank you for making the England Project manager of this profile Heather. PPP will only protect the LNAB and adding/removing first degree relatives (including spouses). Anyone can still edit the profile, change given names and dates, and add comments. All of these will now pass through the England Project's change feed though, so we can keep an eye on them.

I'm not sure if you figured out your question butbI have added the same note to a series if direct grandparents doing from 1650 backwards to 1523 with 4 Roberts and a William Singleton. It may be helpful as I am trying to get the attention of anyone who can help. Good Luck! Becky
