First thing you need to do is have a connection to that person to start with. Usually the best way to start is by having a connection to the Global Tree, otherwise your connection pool is going to typically be very small. You are connected to the Global Tree already, so that's a good start.

Second, you need to know who it is you want to see a connection to. For example, your WikiTree ID is Salter-2694. You need to find another profile to connect to. We'll pick mine just for fun. I'm Fulkerson-232.

Now you need to decide if you want to see if we're blood related or just connected. We'll try blood relations first. So in your profile, go to the tab marked Family Tree & Genealogy Tools. Down just a little bit you'll see Connection To Me. In the description it says "Relationship Finder". Click that one. If the fields don't show Salter-2694 and Fulkerson-232, put them in there and click Find Relationship. It says we're not blood related within 15 generations. Click the button that says Search 30 Generations. It may take a minute. And SUCCESS! We're related - 15th Cousins through Fulke Bourchier.

Now that's "relationship" - the "connection" is slightly different. Go back to your profile and to the Family Tree & Genealogy Tools and select "Connection to Me". Again, you may need to put the WikiTree ID's into the form and click Find Connection. Now it will tell you the closest path between the two of us. Since this route includes marriages and other non-blood relations, we should be closer than 28-30 degrees. And we are - 26 degrees apart. Looks like it goes through the Whitesides and Prices on my side of the family and on yours the biggest ones are Wittig and Ische.

Now that's the old reliable way. There's a shorter method. Go to the profile you want to show a connection from, and scroll to the bottom. If that profile is connected to the global tree, it will have a box near the bottom that says something like "Scott is xx degrees from <blah blah>, xx degrees from <blah blah>, ... " and so on. At the end of all that, you'll see (well, this is what I see on your profile)

See your connection or your genealogical relationship with Evelyn.

So from that person's page, you can click "your connection" to get the degrees of separation, or "your genealogical relationship" to get how closely blood related you are to them.

Hope that helps.
