Is there a Swearingen name project, or anyone around that could help verify some 1700's Swearingen info? I'm not really sure how to progress from this point. Thanks!
I've worked back adding sourced profiles back to my fourth great grandmother, Jane Swearingen Rankin born 31 Aug 1802 in Mason, Kentucky. (Swearingen-1422) The Lewis, KY marriage record states "...a certificate in writing from Daniel Swearingen the father of Jane giving his consent proved by the oath of Charles Swearingen..." So, her father is Daniel Swearingen, but there is no further information in this record, no middle name or date of his birth, etc.
On FamilySearch and in numerous trees online it shows Jane as the daughter of Daniel S. Swearingen (b. 1772) the son of John Swearingen (b. 1752) and on back all the way to 1550. (No telling how reliable or crazy that is!) Anyway...
I found Swearingen-1402, Daniel S. Swearingen b. 1772 already on WikiTree so made the connection to Jane and started adding the sources I could find, but I'm not to certain of it. Daniel was reportedly born in PA and died in Vermillion County, IL. I find him in the 1810 and 1820 census in Lewis, KY. (He gave his permission for Jane to marry Hiram Rankin in 1820 in Lewis County, KY.) I also see a Daniel S. Swearingen in 1820 in Washington County, IL, and in 1830 in Clinton County, IL. In 1839 Daniel is buried in Patterson Cemetery in Vermillion County, IL, the same cemetery where Jane is later buried.
I don't think Daniel would have been enumerated twice in two different states in 1820, more likely they are different Daniels. Of course these census records don't include date of birth or any family member's names so they are of limited help.
Also, I found the profile Swearingen-276 for John Swearingen Jr (b. 1752), said to be Daniel's father in the FamilySearch data, but not connected to Daniel on WikiTree. This John Swearingen profile goes back to the late 1500's more or less in agreement with the data on FamilySearch. I have not yet seen what sources are provided...
