The number of profiles on WikiTree recently passed the 7 million mark. So we've grown a LOT in the last year!
There's no way of knowing the number of duplicates, or how much that's changed. There are a few relevant facts I can tell you:
-
Right now, there are 12947 pending merges.
-
On March 25, 2013, there were 23093 pending merges. (That hasn't gone straight down; I was seeing numbers in the 28000 range in late 2013.)
-
Thanks to the development of GEDMatches and the vigilance of Eowyn, fewer duplicates are imported now.
-
The Arborists are one of our most active projects, and they just go around merging duplicates like crazy.
-
Right now, there are 17659 unmerged matches. I haven't kept track of these over time, so I don't know how that number has changed.
What these facts tell me is that we're making progress on the duplicates. It probably won't be very long before the pending merge backlog is cleared out, at which point the focus will shift towards the researching the unmerged matches and searching for previously undiscovered duplicates.
