Looking for details of a soldier, John McKay, whose son (also John McKay) was born in Glasgow — possibly in barracks — in 1806 or 1796 (there is an anomaly in John Jnr's death certificate).
The maiden surname of John Snr's wife was Grant. John Jnr's wife was Catherine/Kate MacMillan from Kilmallie. John Jnr and Kate lived in Ballachulish until leaving for Luing in the mid-19th century.
I'm interested to discover if John Snr was a native of Lochaber or if he came from the MacKays of the north, either from Sutherland or Ross-shire, or from the Moray Firth.
