Where did he come from and where did he go?

Lawrence Holmes is recorded as the father of my 3 x great grandmother, Sarah Holmes on her baptism record at St Botolphs, Knottingley, West Yorkshire, ENG on 24 Feb 1827.  A marriage record the year before shows Lawrence married Maria Cliff(e) at St Giles, Pontefract, WRY.  Sarah married my 3x g.grandfather, Thomas Addy on 24 Nov 1845 at St Giles, Pontefract and gives her father's name as Henry Houlden.  A marriage record on 1 Sep 1833 shows Henry *Holding* married Maria Holmes (who states she is a spinster) at the Parish Church of Brotherton, West Yorkshire (in the Ponefract District). I have not been able to find any other record for Lawrence Holmes to know what became of him.  The nearest I found was a Lawrence Holmes who died in 1825, registered at Ferry Fryston (Ferrybridge) in the Pontefract District (a year before Maria and Lawrence married).  Where did he come from and where did he go?  I have DNA matches with half cousins who descend from Henry Holding/Houlden and Maria (nee Cliff) but no leads on the surname Holmes as yet.

"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975", database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J9QC-T7C : 20 September 2020), Lawrence Holmes in entry for Sarah Holmes, 1827.

Hmm!  Lawrence is a labourer (as per baptismal register for daughter Sarah) who can sign his own name on the marriage register - and he spells it Laurence.

On the marriage record I read Laurence, with a larger c preceding the more faint e at the end? I'm not seeing a middle initial.

Thank you for noting the Family Search sources.  I shall try remember to cite free to view records so more people can access yes

you are right about no middle initial actually.  I'll edit my comment so it doesn't mislead anyone
