Clues to his lineage: He spoke Gaelic. He married Mary Ann Rook (widow of George Rook, an English Artilleryman) in CAN, probably Ontario, in 1812. Mary Ann already had two small daughters, Jemima and Mary Ann. George and Mary Ann left quickly for the US (unk why) soon after their marriage. They had four children (3xdau and 1xson) together, possibly in NY or NJ and returned to CAN after 1825. He purchased land in Ontario and remained in the area until the end of his life. Where was he born? Why did he leave Scotland? When did he emigrate? How did he meet Mary Ann? She was probably living in or near Quebec as that is where George was stationed when the daughters were baptised. It seems he didn't speak much to his children about his previous life before he married Mary Ann. Help!
