Hi,

I would like to join this project as my ancestors are mainly swedish with major contributions from Västernorrland, Västerbotten and Västergötland. There is also a component of immigrants from Finland (17th century) which is of special interest to me.

Hi

I'd be interested in joining the Nordic project, with a particular focus on Denmark. My father was Danish, though I was born, and grew up, in Ireland. My danish is pretty good, but expect some spelling mistakes - lol!

I only joined WikiTree earlier this year as a place to store our family tree for future generations. The family already has a published family history, which I have used to create the profiles, and my next step is to supplement these profiles with additional sources, eg. census, birth & marriage records, etc.

As the family tree only focused on the male line, I am also researching my missing maternal ancestors, mainly using Ancestry records.

Later, at some point, it would be interesting to see if we can find additional evidence for our original German ancestors in the 1400s.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi,

The maternal side of my tree is from Denmark and Norway.  Family names Lund, Danielsen and Norby.  I can be most helpful with the Norby (Norway) branch.

Would like to join the Nordic project.  Have been tracing down ancestors in Norway and Sweden since 1976.  Came across WikiTree earlier this year and like the quality level compared with alternatives.

My husband, Joe Pritchard, showed 16% Scandinavian on his DNA test.  Is that enough to be in this group? Or is does DNA go too far back to be of use in this case? His ancestors were Irish and Welsh.  Mary Pritchard

Welcome to the Nordic Project, Mary!  The badge has been added to your Profile.  All that is required to join is an interest in Nordic genealogy.  I have about 16% Scandinavian DNA (no idea where or who it comes from), as well.

Hello,

Based on my DNA, yes I have ancestors coming from Scandinavia for 25 to 30% and around 25% from the UK.

Based on some historical information, my name comes from a small Nordmore kingdom not far from Trondheim.

Hope I can get more info by joining this Group. Gratefully yours, Christian

Hi, my name is Sem Eik

I have been working over 45 years on Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland (my DNA is 53 percent Finish) the rest is Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. I can not read Danish, Swedish or Finish, just a little Norwegian to get by.

My biggest mistake is very common, not documenting my findings, so I have over 800 to 900 family names, so I put in the one's that I have sources for, mainly the books, and Church Records.

Hello from Denmark.

I would like to participate in this group, having special interest in Denmark. I am fairly new to both ancestry and Wiki tree, still fumbling around, trying to understand everything.

My late father did a great job digging up ancestors in churchbooks ect. all around the country and I would like to enter his findings and continue his work here.

My ancestry is primarily Scottish and Icelandic. I have a fair knowledge of the census database of the National Archives of Iceland and a keen interest in at least spelling Icelandic names correctly.

Yes, I am interested in joining the Nordic Project. I've added the Nordic tag. My DNA testing shows I'm anywhere from 37 to more than 50 percent Scandinavian, predominantly Danish. 23andMe narrowed the locations down to Copenhagen and the northern portion of Germany, the Schleswig-Holstein area.

Family members are listed on the 1845 and 1860 Denmark Census records. One 1860 census is for Borglum, Hjorring, Danmark, now Bordelum, Germany.

I find it confusing. When they were born it was Denmark, now it is Germany. I want to preserve my Danish heritage. I don't want it erased by Germany.

Is this an issue confronting other members? I hope I can learn how to sort through the early history and contribute in some way to the project.

Thank you!
Something is wrong! Børglum, Hjørring has absolutely nothing to do with Bordelum, Germany.

But the history of Schleswig Holstein is often confusing.
The Dukedom Schleswig-Holstein was in union with Denmark from medieval times and the King of Denmark was also Duke of  Schleswig Holstein. (most of the time).

Nationalistic movements in Schleswig Holstein resulted in a civil war between Denmark and Schleswig Holstein 1848 - 1850 supported by Prussia and Austria. The outcome was that Denmark had control over Schleswig while Prussia and Austria controlled Holstein. Nationalistic forces in Denmark created a new war in 1864, where Denmark was overrun and defeated by Prussia in a very short time, and both Schleswig and Holstein were incorporated in Prussia later Germany.

In 1920 after WWI the northern part of Schleswig became Danish after a referendum, while the southern part and Holstein remained German.

I got the information regarding Borglum, Hjorring from an 1860 record on Family search. Børglum, Hjørring, Danmark

Thanks for the historical information. I'm assuming when you provide the birth information for ancestors, you give the information as to what the location was at the time of birth.

I'm having difficulty when people were born in the 1700s or earlier.

Typical FamilySearch - their placecoding is often wrong - check the original

Yes, I think that the correct WikiTree way is to use the country which was applicable at the time of the event. Pre 1700 for Schleswig Holstein is not difficult; always Denmarkwink.

Thank you! Pre-1700 always Denmark.

My maternal grandmother was born a Nelson but my progress stopped with her mother and father both Norwegian complicated by references to Sweden as country of origin prior to Norwegian independence. This is a brick wall for me.

Yes, do have interest in Nordic countries. Would like to join Nordic project. Have relatives of Swedish descent, from Skaraborg County, Sweden.

Since starting the search in Sweden Genealogy, have been hitting many brick walls. So far, for sure have traced first know Swedish immigrant arriving in America about 1892.

Looking forward to work with others who share same interest in the Nordic family history.
