Hi,

I would like to join this project and am most interested in finding Swedish (Nordic) relatives in my direct line going as far back as possible.  Currently on my Paternal direct line I hit a brick wall with Joen Nilsson alt Persson at approx 1600 who was born at Skrikebo, Döderhult, Kalmar län

by Joe Peterson G2G Crew (740 points)
Actually that's the point where  you hit brick walls with most lines of common folk in Sweden - in some places available records linking parents to children even peter out at about 1700. Also, he would be either Nilsson or Persson - they are not alternatives for each other.

I would like to join this project, as my paternal gr grandparents are Norse. And the naming conventions have been driving me nuts.

I would like to join the Nordic project, especially relating to Sweden.  I have paternal ancestors from Sweden, mostly in the area around Eskilstuna in Södermanland.

I would like to join the Nordic Project.  My father was 100% Nordic, majority of his ancestors from Sweden and a small group from Norway.  Immigrants settled in Nebraska and Iowa.

Hi,

I would like to join the Nordic project.

Acording to a MyHeritage DNA test my ancestors are 46% Scandinavian, 51.5% Finnish and 2.5% Inuit. Except for the Inuit part, my genealogical tree confirms this. My ancestors are mainly Norwegian, Swedish  and Finnish.

Hi Harald

You were added to the Project by the previous Leader back in September 2020.  Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Hi, I'm interested in joining this project. My grandfather migrated from Norway with his parents in the 1920s. His ancestors are mostly from the municipalities of Volda and Ørsta in Møre og Romsdal. I'm also interested in working on one-place studies for the former municipalities of Hjørundfjord (today part of Ørsta) and Dalsfjord (today part of Volda).

Hi!

I'm Ingrid Dahl (born Samuelsson in Västra Götaland, Sweden) living in Småland, Sweden. My searchplaces are Larv, Bitterna, Herrljunga in Västra Götaland, Grinstad, Ör, Högsäter Älvsborg, Södra Vi, Frödinge, Vimmerby, Kalmar, Horn, Östergötland, Sweden.

About 50 years ago I draw my very first ancestry tree on my mother's cousin meeting in Västra Götaland, Sweden.

The last 10 years I've been more active with genealogy and now with DNA-researching.

I'd like to help other with their research about Sweden, Norway and Denmak.

Take care and have a nice day!

Ingrid Dahl

My great grandfather was born in Denmark around 1836 but as a young man had a serious fall-out with his father (said to be over his refusal to join the Danish navy - possibly around the time following the first Schleswig war) when his father disowned/disinherited him, and he came over to Tynside in the early 1850s using the name Peter Patterson. We do not know if that was his birth name - some versions of the family story say he took his mother's surname, some say he may have been born Larsson. Soon after he was in the British Navy and is recorded at the naval seige of Sevastopol during the Crimean War. He married my great-grandmother Charlotte Cox in 1862 in South Sheilds, Co Durham, England where they raised a family.

Although Ancestry DNA does not specifically identify Danish genes it gives me 30% Norwegian (Hordaland/Sunnhordland) and 11% Swedish (Skone/Sodra Halland) apart from my Shetland background (included in my 44% northern Scottish) ethnicity, and identifies many individuals in Scandinavia as relatively close relatives (i.e. recent shared ancestry).

I have no idea how to go about identifying my Danish great-grandfather's family/tree and would welcome any advice.

I have an interest in following the Nordic project as I was born in the Faroe Islands, my father is from Iceland and my mother from Faroe Islands, which means my ancestors are spread all over Scandinavia, and northern Germany. There is also threads to UK and Ireland. I grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark. I do speak Danish and Faroese and understand most Icelandic as well.

Welcome to the Nordic Project. Our Project Leader will add your badge soon and get you started in the project.

I do not think we have many or even any other members with Faroe knowledge, either way we are lucky to have you! ;)
Thank you, that means somebody will add the badge soon?
It should already be there since the 15th :)
I've added your Nordic Project badge, Haraldur.  I'll be in touch shortly via Private Message with more information about the Project.

Hi! My name is Stacy Aannestad -- I am not of Scandinavian/Nordic ancestry myself, but my husband's parents came to the U.S. from Norway just after their marriage in the 60s. They have done, and continue to do, their own research on their family line, but I am adding to their research and posting what I can to WikiTree. I want to be sure I'm careful with the research as Scandinavian genealogy can get a bit complicated (although my own British Isles ancestry has been known to devolve into craziness from time to time), so I'd love to join the project here.

His family is mostly from the former Buskerud region, as well as Kristiania/Oslo, with a few other locations showing up, and there is a Danish line, as well.

Hi!

Would like to join the Nordic project, subproject Sweden. I am also interested in Finland, but one country is enough for starting. My ancestors are "all" from Sweden and Finland, when it belonged to Sweden, pre-1809.

Hej allesammans!

I am a Swedish national with 3/4 of my roots in Skåne, and 1/4 in up-Sweden (much in Värmland and areas around) through my fathers mother who was born in Stockholm. My deepest verified line goes back to 1385, but I do most of my research these days in the 1500-1800 period. I just needed that pre-1700 badge :c)

Keeping track of sources, verifying and documenting everything is something I learnt the second day I took up this hobby, so it feels great to have found a place of like minded people.

Hello!
I would like to join this project. My ancestors are so far back to sources can tell, 100% Norwegian. Areas of most interest is Hedmarken (Stange and Ringsaker), Sigdal og Hallingdal (Flå and Krødsherad), Toten and Østerdalen. I live in Hamar, the main city of Hedmarken, and so far I have done most research in Stange/Romedal.

Welcome to the Project, Steinar!  Your badge has been added to your profile.

In 2014 the family and I visited the cathedral ruins in Hamar and drove through Stange, Romedal & Ringsaker visiting several family farms (Skredshol, Farberg & Hørsand). Gracious people and an absolutely lovely country.  Jeg elsker dette landet. Hope to get back again someday.

A Belated Welcome & Best Wishes – Jim
