Mary (Bidwell?) md. 1676 (Hartford CT) to John Dix.

Question

The wife of John Dix was named Mary, but was her maiden name really Bidwell.  The Farman source says so, but I can find no proof.  Also cannot find a source that they were married in June 1676.   There was a Mary Bidwell (Bidwell-100) who married John Meakins, but she cannot be the wife of John Dix as many online trees claim, because the births of the Dix and Meakins children overlap in time.  Perhaps the Farman source made the same mistake.  Anyway, if John Dix was married in June 1676, I assume a marriage record would show the maiden name of his wife Mary.  I have had no luck finding such a marriage record.

Torrey (2015 version):   DIX, John & Mary [BIDWELL]; abt. 1672/79; Hartford {Wethersfield 2:302; Foreman Anc. 154} The brackets mean Torrey didn't find a firm marriage record, but a jpretty good source. Check Stiles' HIstory of Wethersfield to see what he says.

Thank you Anne.  I checked Stiles, but doesn't seem to have anything helpful about Dix or Bidwell families that early.

I just found another source that calls her Mary Bidwell, but the marriage date says ca. 1672/79.   So I still don't know where the June 1676 marriage date came from (or where this source got the name Bidwell):
