I'm stuck.  James Forbes, allegedly born in Scotland in 1657, came to British Colonies and setup a farm in Accomack County in the Virginia Colony.  He and his wife then left for Northeastern North Carolina (present day Camden and Currituck Counties area).

I know they existed in North Carolina. I'd like to try to link them back to Scotland but every resource I've looked at has been a dead-end.  For someone who had quite an impact on the area, there doesn't seem to be a lot of information about him.  Anyone know anything about him?

familysearch.org shows a James Forbes with wife Isabel Gray who had a daughter Karharin Forbes who was christened 31 Dec 1717 at Old Machar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Familysearch.org has a fair number of results that you may want to look into. It looks like James Forbes was named as the father in a fair number of christenings.

Yes, this is the person but it the trail seems to stop with him (no parents) and much of this is circumstantial.  I was hoping that there would be some information from Scotland that would tie him back to greater family there.

I'm still looking for ties to Scotland.

The Worldwide Forbes DNA project on familytreedna has this line in the results. FYI, the current Lord Forbes is participating so this will allow all Forbes to trace back to the original Clan, IF enough people participate. The big y-700 is needed from as many participants as possible. I plan to take a Y-DNA test at some point in the future.

Here's information on his land grant and descendants.
