The Scotland Project is hard at work improving profiles for our Scottish Ancestors and we would love you to join us!  The Project covers all things Scottish, so no matter what your interests are, there's a team waiting for you!

You'll begin with a journey down our new Tartan Trail (you can learn more about it here) where you'll not only improve and/or learn new skills, but will also meet new people and learn to work within an active, collaborative WikiTree community.  Once you've completed the Tartan Trail, you'll be invited to join other teams within the project that interest you.

Membership Information

If you are new to WikiTree and have not become a full member you will need to upgrade to Wiki Genealogist Level. Sign our Honor Code to receive your Wiki Genealogist badge, which is a necessity for editing profiles. Full details can also be found on the Scotland Project home page. This will also give you a time line of what to expect from the Tartan Trail.

To start your journey, post an ANSWER below!

Don't forget to add the Scotland tag to your profile page

If you leave a *comment* here instead of an *answer,* your comments will be read and then removed. This thread is only for joining the project, and all other questions should be started on a separate G2G post.

Again, please be certain to *answer* above, not *comment.*

I would like to join this group. Most of my ancestors are of Scottish descent. My main line being Graham's from the Dumfrieshire area and MacKay's (McKay's) from the Sutherlandshire area. My ancestors immigrated from Scotland to Nova Scotia in the early 1800's. I'm interested in most things from Scotland and enjoy colaborating and sharing information with other genealogists.

Hi!  In the United States I have a lot of information on my maternal side:  Duncans (several branches) and am pursuing my "brick wall" James King on my paternal side, perhaps a Scots/Irish Revolutionary soldier (who probably arrived in 1718). In my proven family line the children's names include Nelson repeatedly and I believe that quite probably the connection is with Nelson (Nillson) who also arrived in 1718 with the Scots/Irish and lived in and around Palmer and Blandford, Massachusetts.  But I'd be thrilled to share with cousins!

Am interested in Forrest families of southern Scotland:  one Johannes/Johnne Forrest appears to have come as a baby ca 1619 to Edinborough area. Need remarriage of widowed mother ca 1619.to a Forrest (?)....by 1623 a person, not a blood relative, was in control of the boy's inheritance.  Possible source of family dispute ca 1690, when William Forrest was miller of Mashock Mill.   Have been working on this Forrest family a while; have y-DNA results in FTDNA Forrest project.   No clue is too small for this Forrest family research!

Definitely want to obtain more information about my Scot and Irish roots. My MacKay (MacAdiogh) family seemingly goes back to Dunchad Donnchaddh, Abbott of Scotland. Cannot get further back than the US on the Ellison side, except finding the original Irish spelling: O'Heilgheasian.

I have some detailed information on Holden Turner who fought in the American Revolution for the British and his descendants including DNA for three of them from two descendants of Holden's male children.  Also I have information from the Parish Records for him and his parents and ancestors back to Robert Turner born after 1650 and wife Agnes Anderson and their parents. Wm Turner, John Anderson and Briggit Boyes.   Also some information on Wicketshaws and Alexanders and Crawford related families.  Other surnames are Campbell, Crawford, Boyd, Steel and Brakinridge.  Earliest dates are 1550 mostly in Lanarkshire and Ayrshire.  Descendants are in New Brunswick, and elsewhere in Canada, Maine and Massachusetts in the USA.
